Paige could not keep quiet to safe a life. We wandered from the bus stop to my house. It was the longest walk I've ever experienced. Paige kept going on about her sister, and what an awful person she apparently is. She kept complaining about how she never covered for her when Paige wanted to sneak out, how she always snitched and all of it because she wanted paige to be safe. Paige did the bunny ear hand gesture when she said safe. Which obviously proved how much she really cared.

I'd quickly realised that Paige was way more troubled than I knew, and that bringing her here was maybe not the best idea. She could be a bad influence on Missy from what I know.

We finally reached the house. I found the spare keys laying under the doormat. We entered the house and turned on the lights. Nothing had changed, except for the calendar being a month behind, it was usually my job to keep up with the dates.

I figured that calling my mom and letting her know about our new house guest was probably the best idea. I dialed the phone number to our local Bowling Center and prayed that it was my mom who picked up the phone.

"Medford Bowling Center, you're speaking to Mary Cooper" I heard my moms thick Texan accent from the other end of the phone line.

"Hi mom, It's me, your son Sheldon" I said, fidgeting with the cord, nervous about what she was gonna say.

"Hello my son Sheldon, how's it going" I could faintly hear thumps from the bowling balls hitting the ground and Brenda arguing with a customer in the background.

"I'm good. Can Paige stay at our house?" I got straight to the point.

There was silence for a moment before she finally spoke.

"Sure.." she said confused. "Where did you find Paige?" She continued.

I panicked. Months ago, Paige had told her mom that she was stopping the East Texas Tech, and my mom was aware of it because of a letter Paige had written for me. I couldn't tell her that Paige actually went to a party on campus, drank underage, almost left with a 18 year old boy and then ended up drunk in my bed. That would sound weird, especially the last part.

"Uh, Dr. Sturgis and Dr. Linkletter needed help while I was studying for the exams, and Paige came along!" I lied. I lied about the whole Paige part, me having to actually study for an exam and the fact that there was an exam.

"As long as Paige's parents, or parent, is okay with it." Mom said. Still in disbelief that I had willingly asked if Paige Swanson and I could have a sleepover. If i was Georgie, she would've told me to leave room for Jesus.

"Oh, okay!" I said in relief. Now my mom knew about Paige, so there was nothing to worry about

I looked over at the blonde, she was eating homemade cookies that she'd found on the kitchen table. And of course she was eating them without permission.
