Hi pitched shrieking at 2 am!
That's how the day began. It could only be described as the kind of noise that shatters glass or sends dogs a mile away into a barking frenzy, a sound so frightening it haunts you well after it's over. But not so with Marla Willow; She doesn't startle. Marla is always as level as an empty scale. With the calm of a summer breeze and the grace of a gazelle, she quickly accesses the noise, locates the culprit, and moves into action. In an instant she is face to face with the offender and quickly gathers him! Barely an inch from his face, she whispers slowly through clenched jaw with a tone so cold the temperature in the room drops 10 degrees, "If you don't shut your mouth..." He knows this is the kind of sentence that doesn't need a conclusion. The small repeat offender quickly returns to reality as he's lowered into his bed by the extra firm grip of Marla's icy, hot hands. She arranges his blanket just so and gives him a stinging pat on the back. While never releasing her gaze, and with the same calm and speed, she returns to her quarters only to stare at the ceiling. Sleep becomes a tiring game of cat and mouse, an endless cycle of catch and release that leaves her beaten into submission. Soon after finally being conquered by that elusive, nimble sleep, there is a loud knock on Marlas door. She shifts slightly but can only muster enough strength to lift one eye. Through hazy, blurred vision she now sees starring at her the same screaming maniac from earlier, tears in his eyes, and last nights dinner stuck to his face, in his hair and dribbling down his chin.
6 am Monday.

HumorAll Marla ever asks for is a full nights sleep. In the past 10 years she can't recall even one. Maybe tonight she finally gets to experience what 8 continuous hours in bed feels like.
