The sun was up. Birds in the sky and three buses headed out on the highway, their journey having commenced since noon. One of them had its engine sputtering like a coughing old man while its peers were
in perfect brand-new good shape. Each bus carried a different number of high school seniors, all from the range of seventeen to nineteen years old. The first had twenty-eight (but had just twenty-seven in right now), the second had twenty seven and the third had twenty six students.
On one of the buses was Murray Mickelson, who was sitting close to the window, staring out, trying to flush out the noise from the other students. He was your average semi jock kind of student who no one messed with but could handle himself in a fight. He had dark skin and curly hair. Right now,he was bored for a certain reason and kept continuously sighing. He had a bit of a muscular build to him.“What crawled up your ass?”He turned to see Dylan Olsen, the average basketcase loner who kept to himself most of the time staring at him.
Dylan had black wavy hair and a vain look to him.
“What do you mean?” Murray asked him.
“You’ve been sighing like crazy and it’s kind of a put off while I’m just trying to enjoy my comics here.”
“Fine, ok.”Murray had been thinking about his best friend, Jed, who was supposed to be with him on this bus but hadn’t arrived on time and the bus had left. He wondered if Jed could make it.
Three neighboring high schools had decided to collaborate because of their close relationship and hold a field trip for the three students in an amusement park a few miles away, all expenses paid. All they
wanted was for the students to have fun.
Well, that’s what everyone thought. It was an avenue for the schools to find out which was the better school amongst themselves. The amusement park was going to
become like a testing ground examining which school had the best behavior and the sorts and it was only the teachers and important staff personnel that knew about this and was for good reason too.The bus slowly came to a stop, making those inside burst into murmurs. Murray inwardly hoped it was Jed but the chances were almost zero.
“Why the hell are we stopping?” Someone murmured.
“Did the bus get a flat tire?”
“What’s going on?”
Chatters flew around the bus, interrupting the somewhat quieter bus to a noisier one.
“Quiet down, kids.”It was Mr. Ozark, a teacher sent in as a supervisor. They were still high school kids even if they were seniors meaning that an adult had to be there.
“Why’d he even come along?” Someone muttered.
“I heard that.” Mr. Ozark said.
“They ain’t gonna shut up, are they?” Dylan groaned.
“Relax… guys.” The bus driver’s voice came through the speakers. “We’re just making some quick pit stop to pick up some student who was meant to come along.”
Could it be…?
The bus door opened and Jed stepped in, looking apologetic.“Sorry, guys. My bad. My bed was pretty good today.”
Jed Kylson. Murray’s best friend ever since they first met in high school. Jed was the unserious, rare occasional stoner who Murray appreciated as they both kept to themselves and just did what gave them the most fun. Jed was the troublemaker and Murray his occasional bodyguard. Everyone started to cuss at Jed who chuckled and went to the back, sitting beside a girl who had been sitting alone. Her face flushed red and she turned away from Jed before he could notice.Idiot. Murray thought while smiling. Jed just wanted to make an entrance.
