“1 classic chicken sandwich with no mayo. And a medium Chocolate frosty cold brew.” Wendy's isn't my favorite restaurant but dad gave me money to stop by and get him something to eat. I only have 10 dollars so not much for Wendys and McDonalds. “Is that all?”
“Yes.” I pulled out the 10 bucks dad gave me and handed it to the cashier. He takes it and hands me back my change. I stand off to the side while I wait for the food. I feel my phone buzz in my pocket. I pull it out and see that it's Calista texting me.
Hey, come to my house ASAP. It's important.
I frown. Going to message her back to ask why, a child stumbled up to me. Making me lose my balance and almost falling on my ass. I gather myself and see it's a little girl. Blonde hair in a pink dress. Smiling up at me when a woman grabs her arm and gives me an apologetic look.
“I'm terribly sorry. She's a bit slippery sometimes…” I sigh and nod. “No harm done.” The woman smiles, showing off her perfect white teeth and pulls the girl away from me. I mentally face-plant myself. Dumb brat. Learn to control your fucking kids. My phone vibrates again.
Parker. Are you there?
I roll my eyes and type back. What's so important?
I'll tell you once you get here ok?I frown, rolling my eyes. I sigh and message back.
Fine. I'll be there in a little bit. I'm at Wendy's getting my dad food and a coffee.
Ok. Just hurry!
I sigh and place my phone in my pocket. All I wanna do is go home and take a nap. But no, apparently something needs to be discussed ASAP. Probably something dumb like she can't find a certain earring or something else. I pick it up and leave. Pedaling back to the police station.
Thunder roars in the distance. The bag in my basket with my drink in hand. The dark clouds stroll in making it darker. It's supposed to rain sometime. Or it might just be getting really cloudy. The station is in the middle of town so it's not that far. I pass by some residents. On sidewalks or driving by in their vehicles.
Cali keeps blowing my phone up about when I'll be at her house.
The wind picks up to welcome the rain much faster. Fall is mainly the time it storms the most. Not in spring, just in fall.
I hop off my bike and run inside the station. Some officers stopped me to chat or just to say hello. I reach my dad's office and walk in. He sits behind his desk with his legs crossed examining some files. I toss the sandwich and his change on the table. He looked up and noticed me.
“Thanks.” He then takes the bag and opens his food. I sigh and toss my finished coffee into his bin that sits beside his desk. “I'm going to be at Cali’s for a bit if that's alright.”
“Did you do your homework?”
“Yes.”
“Did you study for your test tomorrow?”
I nod. He squinted his eyes. Trying to tell if I'm lying. But he eventually waved me off and ate his food. “As long as thats done then that's fine. Be home by 7.” I scrunch my nose up. Can't go anywhere without him constantly reminding me of that rule.
“I will dad ok?” I give him a hug and leave his office with a deep sigh. Parents…“I don't know what to do! I like him but.” Cali has boy problems now. Jonny asked her to be his girlfriend and now she's freaking out.
“If you like him then go for it I guess. I mean you're going to the dance with him…” She grabs my shoulders and shakes me violently. “You're not helping!” I shove her away. Now I have a headache.
“What?! If you like him and he likes you then I don't see a problem! Your both single and your going to the fucking dance together!” She scrunched her nose up and looked to the side. I crossed my arms as we stayed on her bed. She sighs and hops up and leaves her room. I roll my eyes and lay back. It's almost 5:30. I've been here over an hour listening to her meltdown about Jonny. She really does cry a lot when she gets asked out.
Calista walks back in with a plate full of cookies. Homemade sugar cookies her mother makes. Best in town in my opinion. She sits back down with the plate and I happily snatch a treat. She glares at me. I laugh.
“You know I can't resist a Briana Reynolds sugar cookie.” She burst out laughing and rolled her eyes. Stuffing her face with her own cookie. “Yeah yeah my mom is the best.” I nod in agreement. Sometimes I wish my mother was around to make me cookies like these. But dad isn't too bad of a cook either.
I munch on my cookie and finish it in 2 bites. Licking my fingers of the buttercream icing that she puts on all her cookies. Soon Calista finishes her own and grins at me. “Adans hosting another party at his house. And you're going with me.” I squint my eyes. Of course Adan has to throw another one of his dumb parties. And of course Cali will pull me by the hair there.
“I went to the last one. Can't I have a break?” She scowls. “Come onnnnn! Pretty please!” She pouts, attempting the puppy face. Looks like a constipated cow. I groan. “Fine. But I'm not gonna be there long.” I don't like parties buy if I'll shut her the hell up.
“Sureeee.” I frown and throw a pillow at her head. She gasps and throws it back at me. “Jeez, did you have to do that?” She laid back on her bed and munched on another cookie. “Yes I did actually.” I say sarcastically while standing up to stretch. “Well anyway Saturday be here by 6. I got a super cute dress that will look incredible on you.” I frown at the mention of wanting to dress up for a party. Adan's parents usually leave every other weekend and take Ava with them to visit their grandparents in Canada. Adan doesn't like to go so he basically gets his free time and throws parties. Usually the entire 11th grade is there or ¾ of the school.
“Is the dress appropriate?” I flop back down on the bed. She gets up and goes to her closet. She holds a dark red dress that doesn't have sleeves. The bottom of the dress fades to black and the material looks silky and maybe reaches just above the knees. “It's pretty but I don't like it.” She frowns, placing the dress back in her closet.
“Of course you don't. You only wear sweatshirts and jeans. Let your feminine side show. Damn.” She walks back over and sits down beside me. “I'll look like fucking hooker in that!”
“Bad bitch is what I'd call it. I mean come on! Get drunk, get fucked up! Stop being so uptight like your dad!” I scowled at her grin, smacking her head with a pillow. She gasps and pouts. “What the hell! You'll mess up my hair!” I laugh. She cares too much about her hair. “Just wear it! Have fun for once! You don't have to come to the game, but come to the party!” A deep sigh escaped my lips. “Fine. I'll go. But I'm not wearing that.”
“Yes you are! You're not gonna go to a party looking like a homeless girl! It's a party, do stupid shit. Just stay a virgin the next morning.” I give her a fake smile and roll my eyes. God have mercy on this girl.“BEXLEY! THROW THE BALL!” God I hate him and his stupid whistle. P.E at 8am is a teenage nightmare. Adan throws another ball at the opposite team. Cali hides behind me. I'm always a shield during dodgeball.
I throw the ball at George Evans. Hitting his arm. “EVANS! YOUR OUT!” I scowl when I hear his voice again. Today's finally Friday. Only thing I'm dreading is the last period with history and the stupid test. I run to pick up another ball and throw it. “Parker! Stop running around!!!”
“Stop being a wuss! It's just a game!” I frown turning around but getting hit in the arm. I hold my arm. Damn whoever did that has got an arm.
“BEXLEY! OUT!” I scowl and walk to the bleachers. “I know!” I grumble, sitting down on the cold bleachers. A few minutes later Cali gets hit and skips over next to me. 4 kids along with Adan stand left on our team. About 3 are left on the other team.
Cali pulls out her phone and squeals. Making me jump. “What the hell?”
She grins. “Jonny texted me!” I roll my eyes. They're officially a thing. Well starting to form their relationship anyway. I rest my chin in my hand. Another hit for our team. Now we're down to 3. Adan stands strong. Tossing balls at the other team. Hitting their teammates shoulder down. Just gotta make it through P.E., then the other 2 classes and hello weekend. Cali places her phone down and sighs. Looking out into the gym as the 2 teams battle. I pull out my phone and check the time. 12:00, 15 more minutes until the bell rings. I check my notifications and see that Alex texted me.Hey Park. Wanna come to the movies with me and Drake? You pick, I'm paying.
I frown at the message. He doesn't invite me out unless somethings up. I look up from my screen. Another hit. This time our team. I let out a puff of air and type back.
I don't know if dad will let me.
Already talked to him. Said it's fine.I sigh. Looking over to Cali who was now watching the match. I look down at my phone again and push my lips together.
Fine. I don't have anything going on tonight.
I hear the whistle blow loudly. Cali and I get up and walk to the locker room to change out of our P.E. stuff. The smell of sweat and perfume fill my nose. I slip off my shirt and stuff it in my gym bag. I then move to my shoes and shorts. Slipping them off my body and into my bag. I get my school clothes out of my locker and get dressed. Calista was already done and getting her shoes on.
“Are you ready for next period?” A wide grin comes to her face. I frown, shaking my head. “I'm ready for this day to be over.” I shut my locker and swing my bag over my shoulder. The bell rings. We walk out of the gym and into the hall. We push through the crowd to get to our classes. Adan comes up behind us and hits my head. Cali smacks him.
“Ow! What the hell?!” I watch her send him a glare. “Don't hit her.” I frown, rolling my eyes. “ Just joking around damn.”
“What do you want now?” A big grin Comes to his face. A very stupid grin. “Still coming to the party tomorrow?” I nod slowly, what choice do I have anyway? “Yes, I'm still going. Now shut up.” He laughs, nudging me in the side. Cali rolled her eyes. We continued walking while Adan continued rambling on. He talks your ear off. We pass a few more classes until we come to Calista's class. “Well, there's english. Cya.” I wave her goodbye. Adan and I both have a free period for this period. It would be ok if he wasn’t with me.
We walk into the class and sit in our self assigned seats that are all the way in the back. Near the corner where the teacher can’t see you as well. I place my bag down under my chair. Adan stretches beside me. Kicking his feet up on the desk. Mr. Ronald, the teacher, walks in with a stack of papers in hand. Chattering fills the room as more people walk in and sit down somewhere. I lay my head down. Adan sighs beside me.
“Think I should try out for basketball sometime? When it starts.” I shrug. “If you want to. I don't care.” He rolled his eyes. Some girls walk over to our spot. Talking to him. He's been getting asked to go to the Homecoming for a while. Even one of the popular bitches asked him. He rejected them All.
As usual this was yet another rejection. The girls walk away with sadden expressions. I look at him, raising a brow. “Would you stop rejecting girls and just say yes? You can't go to a dance alone, dumbass.”
He turns and faces me, grinning yet again! “What law says I can't? I do it every year. Think I'd want a girl all in my personal space dancing?” I roll my eyes. Hitting his head. He winced. “You're not one to talk, Park. Only dance you went to was last year and you didn't have a date.”
“Yeah yeah shut up. Damn Scottish bastard.” He rolled his eyes, scoffing. He sits back in his chair. I shake my head, drifting off to take a short little nap. Sometimes I wonder why he's even my friend. A damn stubborn pain in the ass.
