We walked out of the cinema. Drake sleeping in Alex's arms. We watched an animated film that came out not too long ago. Drake was tired out from the film and all the snacks I guess. We arrived at the cinema at 7:30, it's now about 9:20. I didn’t find the movie entertaining but I had to pick a movie a bit more on the kid friendly side for Drake.
We walk up to Alex’s red truck. He unlocks it and puts Drake in the backseat. Buckling him up.I open the passenger side door when I hear my brother's phone ring. I frown.
“Who's that?” I gesture to the phone in his hand. He shrugs, answering it. I hear a woman on the other end of the line. Young, maybe in her 20s. He leans on the truck and talks to whoever. I sigh, climbing into the truck and shutting the door. The night breeze starts to pick up. Making the atmosphere a bit more chilly. I pull out my phone, seeing some photos of the game sent from Cali. Our team won. One of the pictures shows Cali hugging Jonny. Others show some photos that she and the guys had taken.
Alex pulled open the driver side door and climbed in. He lets out a long sigh. I glance in the backseat to see Drake still snoozing.
I furrow my brows, looking out into the nearly empty parking lot. The truck roars to life, Alex starts to pull out of the parking spot now. I yawn, looking out the window. I feel a tap on my shoulder, I look over and raise a brow.
“Up for ice cream?” I tilt my head at his calming yet surprising words. “It's a bit too late for that.” I watch him frown. I glanced behind me once again after hearing Drake shift around in the backseat.
“Not even if it's Sugar Craves?” I shift my gaze over to my older brother at the words of ‘Sugar Craves’. Being in a small town there aren't many restaurants or hangout areas. Basically nothing here. But one of the best things Bear Bay is highly known for is Sugar Craves. The best fucking ice cream shop ever. I used to go there everyday with my mom after school. It always felt cozy and just felt like the perfect atmosphere for the ice cream shop. So, how can I resist that?
I haven't visited in years since mom left. It used to be our thing since we only went. But now Alex wants to go. He doesn't even like ice cream.
“Ok why do you even want to go in the first place? It's late and you have never been a fan of ice cream.” I watch him shrug his shoulders. I frown at his silent behavior. “Thought you wanted to go. And, there's someone I want you to meet.” I raise a brow. Only one thought comes to mind. His mysterious girlfriend he's been with for 3 months. Dads met her. Drake loves her but I have never seen or spoken to her.
     “Who?”
“You'll see. So, Sugar Craves?” I scrunch my nose up and scoff. “Yeah! I haven't been there in years.”
A wide grin comes to my face as I watch him nod. I sit back in my seat and continue to look out the windows as he drives us. The town is dead, like most nights. Drake snores in the backseat, his head tilted to the side resting on his shoulder. I frown. That kid sleeps so weird.
We pulled up to the small ice cream shop about 15 minutes later. The small dimly lit sign holds itself up over the entrance. I hop out of the truck and welcome the Cool Right air into my face. I circle around and find Alex holding Drake who is now waking up.
We walk inside, the plum woman that makes the treats stand behind the counter. She speaks to someone. She's been in this establishment for maybe 18 years. Maybe more. A woman calls Alex over to one of the booths. A blonde wearing a red pullover. She waved and smiled as Alex sat down beside her. Drake crawled into the seat opposite of them. I stand there and raise a brow. “Who's this?” I tilt my head as my brother looked up and smiled. I frown.
“This is Katie. My girlfriend I've been telling you about. This is Parker, my little sister.” I watch the blonde nod. Her smile grows. “He's told me a bit about you. I like your jacket.” I frown but quickly nod and mumble a small thank you, sitting beside Drake in the booth. I don't know what I was expecting when I was told he was dating some girl but I was not expecting this. I honestly don't know what I was expecting.
“So. You're the mystery woman I've never met?” She lets out a soft chuckle, nodding. “Yeah, I'm the school nurse at the elementary school. Nice to meet you.”
“Yeah, same here.” I give her a small smile. She seems nice, from what dad and Alex told,  she appeared to be someone who's got her head on her shoulders.
Drake stands up on the booth, grabbing Alex’s arm. Telling him he wanted chocolate ice cream. “Want a cone, Park?” I tilt my head and think. I haven't had a mint chocolate cone from here in years. I shrug and nod. “Get me a mint cone with extra chocolate syrup.” He nods and turns to Katie. She asks for a small strawberry cone. Alex gets up to get our treats. Katie asks me about myself. Like what do I like to do, what music I like. If I'm interested in a boy, etc. That type of stuff.
Alex returns with the ice cream and hands out the treats. I take a bite of my treat. The ice cream hasn't changed. Drake was making a mess on his chubby face. Katie took a napkin and wiped him down. He giggles. It's nice to visit this place after a few years. Still think its strange my brother did this but it was most likely to introduce Katie.
Some street Lights flicker as we turn on the road leading to the house. The radio played its song softly. Static breaking in every other second. I yawn as we pull into out front yard. As expected no police car.
I watch my brother put the truck in park and look over at me. “So?” I frown, taking off my seatbelt. “So what. About Katie?”
“Yeah, what do you think of her?”
“She seems ok.” I open the door and climb out. I hear him sigh deeply. “She's a real good woman, Park. Just warm up to her. I'll see you later, ok?” I give him a thumbs up and walk to the front door,  pulling out my key. Once inside I hear him drive off.
I lean back on the door and let out a heavy breath. I'm mentally tired from today. My phone buzzes. I look at the screen seeing it's after 10. Also seeing a message from Cali.

                                         Cali

    Don't forget the
     party.
    Be here by 6!

                                                      Ok I will.
                                                   Leave me be.

I get off the door and walk in my room. I noticed something out of the ordinary. No Mimi. I haven't heard anything from my dog since I walked in the house. She wasn't on my bed or anywhere in my room. I furrow my brows and look in the bathroom but find nothing. I checked dad's room, only the appearance of his dull decor was there. Where the fucks my dog. I walk back outside and look around, checking the backyard as well. I haven't spotted her near the house so I take out my phone and turn on the flashlight and walk down the street. The door was locked so she couldn't have gotten out.
I checked everywhere and yelled her name until my throat became sore and scratchy. My dog was gone. I couldn't find her.
I return home with a sour and saddened mood and call my father. He didn't answer the first 3 times I called until finally he picked up. “What?” I flop down on the couch. “Mimi wasn't in the house when I got home and I can't find her.” I hear him sigh on the other end. He sounded irritated and stressed. “She probably got out sometime today when Janet went to the house earlier. She'll come home, relax.” I frown. Of course Janet let her out. Who else would have? “Why was Janet even at our house?”
“She was getting something for me now, watch your tone.” I roll my eyes and look at the blank TV screen in front of me. Another reason to hate Hubbard. “Look Parker I'm busy now if you're not gonna say anything else then get off the phone.” I sigh. “Fine.” I end the call and groan. Rubbing my forehead. She probably got taken by now or let alone dead. I have had that dog since I was 14. That's what makes it more saddening.
I slipped on the dress Cali forced me to wear to the stupid drug party. My hair curled into a ponytail and my hair. My eyes having  a smoky appearance from the makeup. The dress barely reached my thighs and I scoff. “This dress is too small.” I sit on Cali’s bed and watch her put on some earrings. “Put on the tights, it'll make it better.” I raised a brow and put on the pair of black tights she matched with the dress. Still hate it.
I let out a puff of air and pulled out my phone. Still no sign of Mimi but dad put up flyers of her so there's that. It's a small town with a small population so someone had to have seen her. Or she was just taken.
The bed dipped beside me as Calista sat down. Putting on her heels. She wore a tank top with a small jacket along with a skirt. I frown at her appearance and at mine too. I put on my own heels she let me borrow and thankfully they aren't high enough to break your neck in. The shoes slide on easily and I stand up and look at myself in the mirror.
“Are you sure you don't have a dress that's maybe more comfortable and more of my size?” I look at her and cross my arms. The dress feels too tight because I have a little bit bigger of a chest than she does. She just rolled her eyes and walked over with her phone in her hand. She hands me a small black purse and I take it with a scowl. “I hate you. And I hate this dress!” She just laughs at my suffering and walks past me. “C'mon, it starts at 8. I wanna get there early, you know how crowded it gets.”
The urge to slap that smug grin off her face
