"Venezuela! You're going to be late!"
"Coming!"
I quickly put my socks on and run down stairs. "Here we go again" I whisper to myself. The semester break was over and a lot had happened. I was dreading this day.
"Ayaya! Mija when will you ever be on time?" my mom says as she sees me
"One, I'm not late and two we are not Mexican Mom, you should really stop watching those Spanish shows" she pretends to not hear me "que?"  She looks at me with a raised eyebrow "lo siento mama" I don't know exactly what I said but oh well.. I grab my lunch from the table and start making my way out "you're still not eating breakfast mija?" "Mooommm you know it upsets my stomach... bye!" I rush out before she forces me to eat " don't forget to tell your father to pick you up early today!" She yells after me.
My mom and dad are divorced but they coparent just fine. I'd like to believe they're better off as friends than a couple. My dad takes me to and from school. Their dynamic makes sense. My dad's car pulls up just as I make it to the driveway. He's a very punctual man and I love that about him. "Morning Papa" I greet him as I get in the car. He responds before we fall into an awkward silence. I'm not so open with my dad, even though he's present and active in my life. I honestly don't know what my problem is, he's never scolded me nor raised a finger at me but I act like I'm scared of him, I'm not. I love my dad and I know he loves me too, I just don't know what the problem is. "The semester break went by quick ey?" He breaks the silence
"Yes" I mentally facepalm myself yes? What the hell Ven??? The man is trying and all I can give him is a one word response? "Are you happy to be back to school?" He asks Am I? Nope, I'm dreading this day "yeah kind of" I respond
Before he can get another word in we pull up to school. I ready my bag to get out
"Mom said I should tell you to pick me up early today" I tell him, I open the door "see you later Papa" I get out of the car and close the door, he rolls down the window and says "bye Ela" and he drives off.
My name is so long that I have so many nicknames there's Vee, Ven, Ela, Zu, Zway, Veny and some even call me Zee.
My full name is Venezuela but I rarely go by that. I honestly don't know what possessed my parents to give me that long ass name.
"Here we go again" I whisper to myself for the second time. I walk in, making sure to greet the guard. I make my way to class and as I approach it, I hear and see people hurdled  in groups of three or more. They're prolly catching up on what happened during the break. I scan the area for my people "aha! Gotcha" I say to no one in particular when I spot my friends; Fifi, Jade and Deedee. "Hiii chicaaaaas" I greet them as I get to where they are. "Vee!!!" They all squeal in unison. We hug each other "ZWAY!" Deedee yells while saluting, we all laugh.
"Gosh it feels like the first day of school" Fifi exclaims, "technically it is the first day"  Miss smarty pants says(Deedee) we all roll our eyes at her "what!? It is"
I zone out of the conversation, my eyes start wandering around looking for something, or someone, a certain someone in particular. I guess he's late as usual. Well that gives me more time to mentally prepare myself for whatever confrontation is coming. "...Vee?" Someone taps my arm.. I had totally forgot I was with people "yeah?" I look to see who it was and it was fifi "you alright there chica?" She asks , I just nod. I'm okay. I'm not nervous or anything. Pffft. Why would I be nervous. I'm the confident Ven. "You wandered off" Jade says, eyeing me suspiciously.
Just then I notice him. My heart beats rapidly. He was there all along. SKy.
