Chapter Two

“Masyado ka nang mapanakit, Adi. You're not being funny anymore!" reklamo ni Fidel habang naglalakad kami pauwi.

“Sorry na. Ikaw naman kasi pinagtatawanan mo ako. I'm only hurting you physically because you hurt me emotionally!"

“Wow tapos nang gaslight ka pa talaga ‘no?”

I was about to pinch him again but he was too quick to ran away from me kaya mabilis ko rin siyang hinabol. A fact about Fidel is he is super duper tall. He's almost six foot at the age of seventeen kaya naman palagi talaga akong natatalo kapag naghahabulan kami.

“Sandali! Okay na quits na tayo! Antayin mo ‘ko!” sigaw ko sa kanya but he only stuck his tongue out kaya mas lalo akong nainis. I thought he was going to stop and wait for me pero ang gago ay mas binilisan pa nga hanggang makarating na siya sa likuan papunta sa kanila. He waved and shouted something I couldn't hear because of the distance. I saw him burst out laughing so showed him my middle finger which made him laugh even more.

“Tsk. Tingnan natin bukas kung makakatawa ka pa,” I murmured.

“Your boyfriend left you?”

I turned around to look who it is and my heart immediately hammered at the sight of him. It was Greene, on his army green bike na may design kagaya ng monster na inumin. Is that what he likes?

“Magkaibigan lang kami ni Fidel.”

His brow raised when I said that. Mukhang hindi siya naniniwala.

“Totoo.”

He looked amused when I said that.

“Okay. Gusto mong umangkas? Papunta ako sa inyo. Sumabay ka na.”

Of course hindi kaagad ako nakaimik sa sinabi niya. I never expected this day to happen. Never in my wildest dreams I imagined me and Greene to talk casually in the middle of the road like we're good friends.

“Ayaw mo?” his voice woke me up from my reverie.

He looked at me, confused. “Bakit?” He then checked his bike at kaagad niya namang na gets kung bakit.

“Tsk. My father forgot to put the seat back. Dito ka na lang umangkas sa harapan.”

Huh? Ano daw? Bigla namang uminit ang aking mukha. Is this for real? I sat on the bicycle and he started to balance and as he move the pedals. I was silent the whole time because my heart couldn't take all the giddiness that I am feeling. I saw how firm Greene's hands on the handlebar so much that his veins are protuding. My face heated even more when evil thoughts from the back of my mind hindered my right way of thinking.

“Are you comfortable? Medyo bibilisan ko para hindi ka na mahirapan.”

When did I ever get this close to him? We were nine and we never spoke to each other after that. He transfered to my school way back in Grade 6 at nakita ko na nagbago na siya. He wasn't the snob Atlas Greene, in fact he became famous in our class, in our school. Hanggang mag-high school ay ganoon din. At ngayong Grade 12 kami, inaamin ko na medyo malalim na nga ang paghanga ko sa kanya pero we never even had a proper conversation until earlier so why is he talking and being nice to me now?
