Riley seems so unsettled lately. Restless, sad, maybe even depressed. The problem with her is she gets so much hope all welled up inside of her and then the world lets her down. If you think about it hope is really everyone's worst enemy. It gets you all excited, like flying on an airplane, and then all of the sudden the airplane crashes. And what are you left with? Nothing. Not a thing.

This window sitting thing is getting really boring when we don't have anything to talk about. I decide to speak up. "So what do we do now?" "I don't know, you got any ideas?" says my little innocent chump.

I think about it for a while. I know she means like go play a board game or take a walk or something, but she really needs something to get her mind of Josh. Wait. Mind off of Josh. Josh is a boy. Boy. Lucas. Lucas is also a boy.

Okay I met Lucas when I was 10 in a summer camp. He was... nice. To me. The one no one else was nice to. I still remember one day it was raining. It was summer so obviously I didn't think to bring an umbrella. I don't think I even owned an umbrella. Everyone laughed at me. I was soaking wet. I had mud all over my shoes and the ends of my jeans.

And then Lucas showed up and offered his umbrella and his sweater. Then to make it even better, he went out into the rain and got soaked. He stomped in a puddle until he was completely covered in mud. Then he came back to me and said "Now I'm like you. That's not a bad thing." He made me have hope. Hope that there was good people in this world. Hope that maybe someday, I might actually find love.

Then he left. Summer was over. He told me that if he ever saw me again (which he hoped that he would) he wouldn't talk to me as much. He said it wasn't my fault, something about his parents, bad influence, love. I didn't know how quickly the time would pass until it did. And then I saw him again. New boy at school. I recognized him in an instant. He had the same smirk, same face only stronger, shoulders broader, but same twinkling eyes. Like a real life Prince Charming.

But sure enough we don't talk. We ignore each other like we have never met. Never once has even hinted at wanting to talk again, like a wink or a smile. Nothing. Not a thing. Hope is for suckers. And never will I ever be a sucker again.

But Riley... She's no sucker, but Lucas is a perfect fit for her. He won't break her, I know that for sure. He's not the breaking type. He's definately the saving type. Just what Riley needs. I finally answered her request for something to do. "Well, I don't know I  might have like one plan tucked away for a very special moment like this.." I said, with a hint of sarcasm. "Oh no is it another one of your evil plots? Maya, I don't want trouble." Riley was sincerely concerned. I could tell. "Don't worry," I said, "I'll keep my little chump safe.
