When Rose finally awoke, she teleported us to the human realm, and Noah had phoned, but I knew I couldn't say much, just as he knew about my great escape plan–to join The Seven if my world ever went to shit, which it very much did. And it meant losing him, too. The Seven were a very private group who were nearly impossible to locate and invite only.
Not many words were exchanged between Rose and I, and I wondered if she already knew my fate. She was Madrick's twin, after all–both born under Gemini, the oracle angels–flip sides of a coin. Many heartbreaks ago, Rose had told me Roxanne wasn't the one for me.
That I ended up with a brunette, who had doilies. Many doilies.
That's all she'd said.
And I wanted to ask if she'd meant my wife.... But neither answer would've brought me solace. Either she was the love of my life, and I'd ruined it, or she wasn't, and that somehow hurt even more knowing all that we'd built together.
"If I ask you.... If..." I couldn't get the words out.
Rose touched my cheek and smiled sweetly. "No, honey," she said. "I wouldn't tell you. Hell, if I was to tell you what destiny had in store for you, you wouldn't believe me, but I can tell you that you're on your path. Everything happens for a reason..some higher purpose and your story is far from over. And I know things are dark right now, but you'll be so happy soon."
