Two hours later

"Father!"

Zacharias straightened in his office chair, Veronica's screams startling him. What the hell?

The little bitch was going to wake the whole pack. Zacharias growled and stood. He had to go shut her up. He walked to the door that led from his office intot his room, annoyance radiating from him.

"Daddy! Dad-"

Zacharias stopped in front of the door, an eerie silence coming from the room. Why had she stopped? His hand gripped the doorknob and turned it. He pushed the door open and stepped in.

Veronica was layed out on the floor of her cage, disturbingly still. "Veronica?" That was the first time he'd said her name and it felt...right? He shook his head. His feet slowly moved toward her. "Veronica?" He lengthened his claws and unlocked the cage door.

"Veronica?"

He placed two fingers on her neck, checking for a pulse.

.....................thump............................thump.............................thump.....................................thump

The beat of her heart was feint, barely even there and was slowing down and getting weaker. She's dying. Part of him wanted to let him die, but a bigger part...his wolf side wanted to help her. To save her. Saving a vampire?!

What was wrong with him? Why would he want to help a leech? A bloodsucker?

He moved to leave but froze. God I'm going to regret this. He grabbed Veronica and pulled her onto his lap. He brought his wrist to his mouth and his always sharp canines bit into the smooth flesh.

He held the wound over Veronica's open mouth, droplets of blood falling onto her tongue. Her eyes shot open and Zacharias though she'd latch onto his wrist but she didn't. She instead weakly turned her head away. "Never.....from......the....fleash." Each word came out in breathy pants as Veronica's eye lids slowly drew together.

Zacharias frowned. All vampires sink their fangs into others. That's how they've always fed. Right? Right. He moved to pit his wound on her mouth but she hissed, now sharp, black nails slashing at him. "Never...from...the...flesh............would......rather.......die."

Zacharias was startled by her words. She'd rather die than drink from the flesh? Why was drinking from the flesh so bad to her?

"Here."

He looked over his shoulder and saw Stacy at the doorway. She tossed him four bags full of blood and left. It was blood from a human blood bank.

He tore a corner off one of the bags and tipped it over Veronica's mouth. She tensed and her eyes opened, immediately locking onto the source of the blood. She relaxed slightly, her hand reaching up and weakly gripping his. She pulled, bringing the bag and his hand closer to her. Her lips covered the open of the bag and she hungrily drank the blood.

Veronica drank all four bags of blood, her strength returning. When all of her strength had returned she moved back into her cage and shut the door. It locked.

Veronica had thought long and hard and she'd decided she'd pay the price of her families sins against these creatures. She believed that in doing so she'd redeem herself. Would rid her family of their disgrace, even of they didn't know.

Veronica shrank back, receding to a corner of the cage. She brought her knees up to her chest and wraped her arms around her legs. She closed her eyed and laid her head on her knees.

I'll endure for you my loves.

Veronica chuckled. Her whole family had been right. Her love and kindness will be her downfall.
