"God, your hands are fucking freezing" Josh said to the short girl as he sat in her room. "Apparently that means you have a warm heart or something" Rhiannon casually replied not focusing on the conversation as she struggled with her eyeliner, the commitment to her makeup was a lifestyle at this point.
It was early that year most of her friends had moved towards the more popular style but Rhiannon found it tacky, although the big eyeliner and hair dyed black she sported probably seemed just as bad to some, she loved it. "Should I dye my hair again" She turned to the boy, "not like my natural colour, maybe red"
"I think you'd look pretty with red hair" Josh told her.

When Rhiannon showed her parents they weren't happy with the red but her mum secretly loved it underneath all the annoyance. Her parents didn't really parent alot of the time, instead leaving their daughter to make mistakes herself. Like the time she'd used her best friends sisters ID to get her eyebrow pierced and decided she didn't like it a week later.
There was never any repercussions with her parents, just a "oh well you've done it now" Another great example was when she snuck out to see My Chemical Romance live and her parents didn't realise until the next morning. She always assumed it was the fact they didn't love her, but that wasn't it. Really it was the hippie act, they wanted to seem cool and relaxed when really Rhiannon needed parents there for her.
