When soap was 12

"Mum, do you need to adopt someone? I don't want another sibling he's enough already." Amara, soaps sister, complained while pointing to her younger brother. Their mum, Fiona, slightly laughed at her remark. "Yes, sweetie, me and your dad both agreed we want to adopt." Soap, who was still slightly offended by Amara's earlier comment, spoke up. "But mum-" "No. No buts me and you mum have made the decision that's final" his dad, Angus, had interrupted him. "Fine whatever," Soap muttered as he crossed his arms and turned slightly away from the other three. "Come on, John. Let's go, " his mum asked to leave.

On the drive there, all four of them were singing along with the radio. Finally, they got to the adoption centre. The four walked inside, and the parents started talking to a lady. Soap and Amara didn't really know what was going on, Amara was on her phone, and soap was fidgeting with a rubber band he had found.

(Time skip to a couple hours later, I don't know what happens when adopting someone)

They were all back in the car now but this time there was an extra person. Philip Graves. He wasn't the most confident person the Mactavish family had met, but they were sure he would get on well enough. Graves was 13, a year younger than Amara, and he had a very noticeable American accent. "So...Philip," Amara said, trying to start a conversation. "Why are you here and not in America?" she continued on. "Long story." Gaves said quietly. There was an awkward silence that felt like it lasted an eternity before Angus spoke up. "So Philip, sorry if this is awkward at first, you'll get useful to it eventually, hopefully." Then again, another silence. That's when Fiona put the radio back on. The whole time, soap and graves hadn't spoken a word to each other. It stayed that way the whole way back.

Finally, the five had all got back to their house. For the Mactavish family, it was home, but for Graves, it was still just a random house. They all walked inside. The house itself was quite big, four bedrooms.

"John, would you mind showing Philip where he will stay?" Angus asked. "Fine, whatever." Soap turns to Graves. "Follow me." Soap took graves up the stairs and pointed to a room on the left of the hall. "That rooms yours. Mines is right next door, and Amara's is the one next to that. Mum and dad's room is that one there, just in case you need to know, " Soap said, pointing out the rooms. "And the bathroom is at the end of the hall." it was silent for a few seconds before Graves nodded. "Thank you." his tone was polite and quiet, and the two still not had talked much. Graves then walked into the room Soap had said was his and dropped his stuff on the floor.

Later, at dinner, all of them were sitting on the couches in the living room, watching some drama TV series. It was all silent except the noise of cutlery and the tv playing away until graves spoke up. "Excuse me. What should I call you?" He looked at Fiona and Angus. "I'm fine with you calling me whatever you want you can call me, mum or Fiona you choose," Fiona stated, looking over at him. "And same for me, I guess. Just dad or Angus, " Angus spoke up soon after. Graves just nodded and continued to eat his dinner

After everyone was finished, Amara was asked to do the dishwasher, and the adults kept watching the tv, leaving the two boys alone.

"You like legos?" Soap randomly asked. "Yeah?" Graves responded slightly confused why that's what he asked. "Good. That means you can help me. I have two Lego sets to build, a car and a dinosaur. What one do you want to start with?" Soap said as he got up and waved for Graves to follow him to his room. "How about the dinosaur, I've never seen a dinosaur lego set."The dinosaur it is then," the two kept the conversation going while walking to soap's room. The two sat down and started to build the Lego sets. And that was it, that's how they bonded.
