While walking towards the school's exit with Julia ,I couldn't stop thinking about the note. Who is this N? A girl or a boy? Perhaps even a ghost? As I walked down the stairs I nearly stumbled when a tall, masculine figure with hazel eyes reached out, pulling me up,
"Uh oh, no thoughts of boyfriend while getting off the bus miss, can be dangerous", he quipped with a mischievous smile and walked away.
Julia's sudden exclamation broke the silence. "OMFG, was that... was that Stephen? EVA, YOU JUST BUMPED INTO STEPHEN ANDERSON !"
I blinked, puzzled. "Who's that?" I asked.
Julia leaned in, her eyes wide with excitement. "You don't know? Stephen is the hottest guy in school, the living definition of heartthrob. He's Lucas Anderson's son, one of the richest folks in town. Girls practically worship the ground he walks on."
"Oh," I replied, lacking the same excitement as Julia. My mind remained fixated on the mysterious note from N, leaving me in a world of thoughts that went beyond the allure of Stephen Anderson and the high school gossip.
"Seriously Eva? Not even a lil excited ? Oh wait, you didn't even thank him, did you?" She frowned.
"He left before I could even say a word , I'll thank him tomorrow," I explained, my mind still tangled in the threads of the note inside The Notebook.
As we drove homeward , Julia couldn't contain her excitement, continuously sharing details about Stephen. Curious, I asked, "Julia, how do you know all this?"
Her eyes sparkled with mischief. "Overheard some girls gossiping about him. Stephen is practically the heartbeat of our school's rumor mill," she said.
Amidst Julia's ongoing Stephen saga, I couldn't resist breaking in with a laugh, "Julia, my place is here. Let's continue the drama tomorrow, okay?" The prospect of reaching home added a touch of reality to our banter about high school's heartthrob. "Alright then, see you tomorrow, bye, sweetheart," Julia chirped, waving as she headed home.
The next three days were kinda dull, with no reply from N and Stephen being quite rude. When I tried to thank him in the cafeteria, he just gave me this unfriendly look, checked me out, rolled his eyes, and left. Ugh. Quite disrespectful. It felt like the interesting vibes from N's note and Stephen's earlier helpfulness were fading away, leaving me confused about what was going on. However, day 4 turned out to be quite exciting. Yeah, exciting in the sense that I got a reply from N !
"Dear E, I'm thrilled that my little note caught your attention! It's like finding a companion in this labyrinth of high school chaos. Your response brought a smile to my face. Discovering that "The Notebook" holds a special place in both our hearts is a delightful coincidence. Looking forward to more notes and shared moments in the world of words.  -N"
Without a moment's hesitation,I eagerly penned my response to N's note,
"Dear N, you have no idea how your notes add joy to my day . You sparked a mystery better than any detective novel! I was all set to launch an investigation into your identity, complete with a magnifying glass, but then I thought, "Nah, let's keep it as the coolest high school secret." So, how about diving into a friendship that's as mysterious as why socks disappear in the laundry ? Deal?   -E."
Folding the note like a secret agent with classified information, I heard Julia's unmistakable footsteps approaching (because, let's be real, I've mastered the art of identifying her by the rhythm of her walk). Swiftly tucking the folded piece within the pages of the book and concealing it in a quiet corner of the library, I couldn't help but chuckle at the clandestine operation I had going on. It felt like I was orchestrating a secret mission in the school library, with Julia unintentionally joining the espionage with her rhythmic steps.
"There you are. Been searching for you," she said , catching her breath.
"Oh, and guess what? Stephen was inquiring about you."
"Stephen? Why? What was he up to?"
"No idea. Just said he wants to chat with you."
"Maybe he's cooking up another round of disrespect. What a charming guy." I murmured sarcastically.
"Julia, can you imagine Stephen as the guy who's all "Hey, need help?" one day and then turns into a serial killer plotting the next big thriller? Or maybe he is preparing for a role in a Shakespearean play? Offering a helping hand, only to exit the stage dramatically, leaving us all in suspense about his true intentions.
"Possible," she laughed.
As the day wrapped up with infectious laughter, I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement, my thoughts already drifting to the possibility of finding N's response tucked discreetly within the familiar pages of "The Notebook" when the next school day dawned.
