February 10th, 198?

I don't feel like I belong here.

I'm so underdressed

Or am I overdressed?

I wish I wasn't alone.

I don't know anybody here. Personally, at least. I've seen so many artists that I've admired for years, and every time I glance at them my stomach flips around.

Diana Ross, Cyndi Lauper, Whitney Houston, Billy Joel-

Oh my goodness. Michael Jackson here.

I can't say I'm surprised he's here, but I'm definitely shocked I'm in the same room as him.

There is no way I belong in the same room as these people. They're so much more talented than me.

"Are you okay?"

I spin around, and almost gasp to find that it's George Michael who's trying to talk to me.

"Oh! Hi, uh... I'm fine, I think." I say anxiously. I feel my cheeks starting to heat up. He's really cute.

He chuckles. "You just seem a little anxious. I've never seen you here before, what's your name?"

"Uh." I'm still in shock that George Michael is so casually making conversation with me. "I'm Y/N."

"Oh! You're the new artist! Y/N L/N?" He holds his hand out for me to shake it. "I've listened to a few of your songs. You're incredible."

"Thanks." I'm blushing even harder now. "Well, I need to go over there, I think. They want to interview me quickly."

"It was great to meet you." He says.

As he's walking away, I call out to him. "I love your music, George. Keep up the phenomenal work."

He smiles. "You as well. Take care."

I walk over to the host who's interviewing people on the red carpet. The cameramen signal for us to wait until they're ready to start rolling. We're coming back from a commercial break.

"We're back, and we're here with Y/N L/N, who is looking very flustered. Who was it you were talking with over there?" He asks

"Oh, it was just George Michael. I just met him today, but he's a very nice guy from what I can tell." I say. I'm trying not to let my voice shake too much.

"Well, I don't think we have to ask how you feel about him. You're like a tomato."

I roll my eyes but I'm laughing with it.

"So, tell us who you're excited to see tonight."

The microphone comes back to my face. "That's a big question. Well, I'm psyched because I heard Prince is going to give a performance. I also heard Madonna has something planned later, so I can't wait for that."

He takes the mic back. "Who is your biggest inspiration that started your journey with performing and song writing?"

I sigh a laugh. I'm trying not to blush just thinking about it. "Well, is it cliché of me to say Michael Jackson? Because it's the truth. I've literally grown up on his music. Even though we're basically the same age, my parents always had the TV on any time The Jackson 5 was performing."

"Have you spoken to him tonight?"

"Oh absolutely not. I'd make a fool of myself in front of him. As much as I'd love to chat with the guy, I'm sure he's too busy. And I don't blame him."

They finally let me go, and I sucked in a huge breath of air not realizing I was practically holding mine for the entire duration of the interview

This is going great.
