The days that followed were filled with cheers in the streets, the king's palace had been long stormed and ravaged, political parties that had remained dormant for years finally gained power again and countries all over were demanding independence.
Justice had taken up office until an official president could be voted in. She moved out from the palace, moving herself and Elliot into a comfortable apartment. The injury she received from the king had missed her eyes by millimetres but the scar stained her face.
Britain and France had mended their ways and had found peace. Devon was there at the peace treaty signing.
That morning, Devon and Emily had received word to meet at an old office building that was getting refurbished. They walked down the street as free as could be.
In front of the Eiffel Tower a memorial had been built for all the victims of the king's reign. It was next to this memorial they met up with Marie, who read the names on the dark stone.
"Someone you knew?" Emily asked once they were close enough. She was finally able to dress however she wanted, which for her meant a hoodie and jeans.
"I suppose so, yes" Marie turned to meet their eyes "Where are you two headed in such a rush?"
"Justice wants to meet us".
"She does, does she?"
"Would you like to join us?" Devon suggested out of politeness.
"Well I suppose I must now that you've asked - Justice you say? Magnifique". Devon and Emily had hoped that she'd turn their offer away. Ever since Devon had witnessed her kill the king he'd kept his distance. Once he told Emily what had happened they both moved out and stayed in a hotel.
They left the memorial, walked a while and found themselves at the designated location.
The office building had a sign outside that read the following: Embassy of the United Kingdom. The three entered through glass doors. Workmen were installing computers in the lobby.
It was the first time Devon and Emily had seen such modern technology in Europa. Though it would take some time for Europe to connect to the World Wide Web it was definitely a change for the better. Marie seemed indifferent to the devices. She looked at them for some time but seemed to vaguely know what they were and followed Devon and Emily to the elevator.
Devon pressed the button for the second floor and up they went.
"Have you ever been on an elevator Marie?" Emily asked the playwright.
"Of course I have. France has only been this dull for the past 20 years, before that; there were elevators. I'm sure I must have been on one at least once".
"How old are you anyway?"
"Never ask a woman their age".
"Right. Okay. So you're old?"
"I am a young woman, Winchester".
"But how young?"
"Young enough to understand the newer generation".
"I'll just ask Justice".
"That is the most thought out plan you've come up with".
"What! How?"
"You came to France without knowing the language, without having any currency and you probably didn't even know where Paris was from Calais, not to mention you didn't have a clue why the king had sent an invitation to Devon".
"You knew we came from the port in Dover?"
"I know quite a few things. Winchester". They stood silently in the elevatot together. When the door chimed open they were greeted by their friends; Sofía, Rosa, Justice, Elliot and the king of Britain. Even Fleur was there to greet Devon, whose heart was aflutter when he noticed her next to Justice.
