To The Fire, To The Pain, To The War...

The Sisterhood of Kahn...they offered him an elixir that would shape him into what he would need to be for the war.

What he needed to be? He thought the right words were "Stronger."

However, they themselves said that the Elixir did nothing to bring the darkness out of him...

But he didn't believe that.

Cass...

He had tried getting her out of the ship, but the young girl wouldn't listen. Dying to her own stubborness and foolishness, even near death. She stuck to her ideals and fought against him rescuing her.

It hadn't work. She died in an inferno, an explosion that tore her ship to pieces, in fact, checking the scene at that time, the best looking thing there would have been a blue 60s Police Box. And even that, after all this time, had finally taken damage.

Perhaps that was what pushed him to finally drink that elixir. Watching first-hand as somebody so wrapped up in their belief died...No. It couldn't have been. Blaming a dead girl for her own demise was nothign short of cowardly. The type he would never stoop to.

"Is it not? Doctor?"

That voice...oh, damn it.

A picture of Rassilon appeared in the screen. Smug, in battle-armour that had clearly taken damage.

The idiot was mocking him.

The Doctor, at this point in his Ninth Life still young, flicked a switch to turn his screen off, but the TARDIS rocked and it flickered back on.

"Rude."

"Rassilon."

The Doctor turned to face him.

"You've changed? Judging from your...recent work, I say it was for the better."

"My body, not yours."

Rassilon smiled, and the Doctor knew why.

"Doctor. Or, should I call you-"

"You know very well, you have no right to call me by that name. Now what do you want?"

"You're fighting for me. Yet, still, like previously you spring around the universe-"

"Battling the Daleks and anyone else in the war. Like you want!" He yelled that next part.

Even Rassilon was surprised by the bubbling, but not yet bursting, rage sensed in the Doctor's voice.

"What. Do. You want..." He repeated again.

Rassilon recomposed himself properly and looked down at him.

"There are two rallying factions in Planet Kunaha. The Gastno's and the Inlers. You know them silly. Except...one side may try reaching out to the Daleks. The Inlers."

The Doctor looked into Rassilon's deep, cold eyes.

"Kill them. Find a way to destroy every last one of them. You have the power, it's been bubbling up through the lives..." He paused, waiting for the Doctor's response.

"I won't do it. I simply, won't. It's already the most terrible thing to do. And what makes you think I have the guts?" The Doctor had turned around back to the console.

"Because you've already killed yourself." Rassilon grinned at that moment.

The Doctor lifted his hands from the controls and looked dead at Rassilon.

"I'll beg your pardon?"

"When you drunk that Elixir. You gave yourself up, you let everyone win. The oh, so good inside you had washed up at the sight of that young girl's body...I suppose you've read Earth's 1947 An Inspector Calls? You're Eva. You couldn't handle what the world did to you, so you killed yourself. You broke your promise of no fighting. The Sisterhood told me this body's first words. Doctor no more...well, let us be honest. The Doctor would've been this one way or the other. I've seen what you can do, and I'll see what you will do once us Time Lords win. And oh, Warrior?"

The Warrior looked up.

"I can't wait."

The screen flickered off.

And the Warrior whipped his hands around at the controls. If Rassilon had done one thing during his blasted little speech, the bastard made him angry. And he'd use that anger to-...

To...

The Doctor paused, breathing hard.

He almost lost himself...

To the fire...

To the pain...

To the war...
