June 28th

Ahh, a little peace for once. There wasn't another concert for a week, so we were taking a nice leisurely drive to California, where the next concert would be. I was sitting on my bed in the tour van, working on my drawing of the Skillet band member John Cooper. Luke came up behind me.

"Hey M, whatcha doing?" he asked, peering over my shoulder. M is Luke's nickname for me.

"Oh, nothing really..." I stammered, tilting the drawing so he couldn't see it. I'm kind of insecure about my drawing attempts around other people.

"Hey, give me that." He says, gently pulling it away from me. He whistles. "Wow, that's really good! You know we're doing a concert with them in September, right?"

"Yeah, I want to get them to sign these. John's the only one I'm not finished with."

"What made him so special?" Luke smiled.

I blush slightly. "Well, to be honest, I have a fangirl crush on him. Like, a huge one. Big as the one I have on Chris Pratt, or Benedict Cumberbatch, or Joel..." I say, forgetting for a second who I'm talking to. But them my head snaps up, Luke is looking at me kind of strangely, and I blush really hard. I start talking really fast. "Well, I know they're like all married and everything, but ya know, teenage girl here who... well... I just really loved the message you gave when I first saw you, about respect and honor, loved it SO much, and then I met him for the first time.. and well... I love Australian accents..." I trail off, not know quite what to say anymore.

But Luke smiles at me. "I've always wondered why you were kind of awkward around him. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. But... Have you drawn him?"

I nod, and pull out my notebook of drawings. I flip through them until I get to the ones of Joel and Luke, and then hand the note book to Luke. He looks at them carefully. "You did a great job on these. But may I change something on mine?" I nod again. He grabs my pencil and writes: To my Dreamer, little Miss M, whose dreams are bigger than she realizes. Keep on, keeping on, keeping on. :) Luke He hands the notebook back to me. "Now my only question is, why haven't you aske Joel and I to sign these?"

"Well," I answer, "I thought it might be awkward considering I'm traveling with y'all."

"Pfft, not at all. Now, show me the rest of these."

I spent the next few hours showing him all my sketches and drawings.

Except for one. That one wasn't coming out until WAY later.

We drove on.

The next day, there was a huge shopping mall a few minutes away from where we stopped for dinner. Courtney (Luke's wife) and I decided to go shopping, mostly window for me, although I had a little extra birthday money to spend, since I didn't have to buy concert tickets this year. ;)

We went to Bath and Body works and looked around, and had laughing at the different smells of hand sanitizers and lotions. Then we went to JC Penny, where Courtney got a cute jacket and I got a pretty dark blue dress that she said looked awesome with my hair and eyes. We stopped at an ice cream place, and went to the candy shop, and by that I mean Barnes and Noble.

We both stepped in the store and took a deep sniff. Then we laughed at ourselves and went off into the different parts of the store.

And what do you know, deep in the heart of the Classics section, I found the best candy of all. It was an amazing, leather bound copy of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Well, sure, I had brought my own copy, but it was really beat up, and this WAS ON SALE! I took it up to the counter, and the sales guy smiled at me knowingly.

Courtney and I returned back triumphant and late, having had a full evening.

My journey continued, and the next concert was in a little town outside of LA.

And that little town was the home of Disneyland.
