And that was it! Wow, this was probably my favourite work out of all but I say that after finishing every book. Started this right smack in the middle of my major exam and here I am.
I feel like at the end, the quality of my writing dipped. Not saying the earlier chapters were phenomenal but damn. I think I tried to take on a commedic route, not entirely but I think they became a little more weird and draggy and weird.
I'm not sure if it's obvious but how I write is I write out short snippets of scenes that play out vividly in my mind, key plot points that I know how I want it to happen. Then I do a fun tedious act of stitching these small snippets together, resulting in semi-coherent chapters.
I apologise if the big bad evil in the end was literally killed off in like two chapters, but to be honest, I am tired of this book haha. Was incredibly poorly planned, as you can tell.
But I did love this book. I loved the planning and I literally filled a google doc with 20 pages worth of planning, I had literally created the concept of the &team immortals first, then added the other bits as we went along. I had fun, honestly.
Thank you to everyone who stuck through with me and supported this flaming hot mess.
Some fun stuff!
Here's the rankings of the 16 immortals based off their powers and energy, for funsies. (from highest to lowest)
Power:
Yuma
Kyungmin
Yixiang
Gaku
Hayate
Jo
Maki - Yudai
Fuma
Junwon
Riki
Euijoo - Minhyung
Harua (spell book is mainly defensive and passive)
Hikaru - Yejun (nothing)
Energy:
EJ - Hikaru
Riki
Yejun
Yixiang
Jo
Yudai
Fuma
Yuma - Kyungmin
Junwon
Hayate
Maki
Harua
Minhyung
Gaku
Some key conflicts I tried to maintain in the story:
Yudai and maki (comparing to riki)
Yudai and Riki (needing to mature in their rs)
Yuma with himself
Lifes immortals vs deaths immortals
Euijoo as lifes personification and successor
Was this part successful? Probably not lol!
Personalities (I actually want to know if these aspects could be seen in my writing, especially because I am not really great at that haha)
One thing to note is that while they have lived for centuries, not all, in fact pretty much none of them, are wise, rational and collected.
Those very comfortable with their immortality
Koga
The thing about him is that he lowkey looks down on humans because he has a very low-key superiority feeling because he is stronger and better than them lol
It brings him satisfaction when he knows he's better than them, when he can act well while looking so young when he took years to get to that stage
vain. I think it wasnt too obvious, but he is quite particular about his appearances and it shows when he's stressed (i keep mentioning how he copes with stress by touching his hair)
Fuma
He's different from Koga in a sense that he's completely accepting he's different from humans and because of that he wants to do things humans cant do for the good of humanity, which is to study and research to create more convenience and safety for humans
He's very comfortable with using his powers for his goals but he has good intentions
Honestly I intended him to be the strongest but gave that more to EJ instead
Those balancing well between humanity and immortality
Euijoo
He uses his ability but is very comfortably blended in with humans
He's accepted very well that he is immortal which is the key thing that differentiates him from humans, but he thinks thats no reason to act with no humanity and morals
Jo
He's able to use his powers to help humanity, but at the same time what he's doing is out of the kindness and goodness of his heart because he truly sees the good in humans
Also his powers are devastatingly strong. He is gentle and innocent because he chooses to be kind and gentle.
Those withdrawing from humanity to hold to their immortality
Yuma
He's uncertain about himself, more than he lets off. He's not sure if he has a purpose as an immortal but at the same time he doesn't want to be human
His power isn't easy to handle either, it's overwhelming and very much makes him distinct from humans
Yixiang
He's a little better than Yuma, but he doesn't want to be human either
Those lowkey denying their immortality
Riki
Both Rikis turned immortal young, they retain youthful almost childlike features and hence have the hardest time, which did affect them a little
Riki never really wanted to be immortal, even after so many years of living he's certain he would have never chose to be immortal. He accepts it, however, for one reason, and thats because he knows his friends are by his side.
He clings to his humanity through discomfort and suffering, through difficulty that humans face . He willingly puts himself in such situations so that he can retain the feeling of being human
Maki
The youngest of the immortals, he's been taken care of the most
Since he looks the youngest, its hard to get around, because while Koga and maybe Fuma can get away pretending to be forty, he cannot
He retains his humanity through being immature. Because he was turned when he was young, and had to go through a lot of crazy weird stuff young, he kinda just turned
Harua is a special case, of course. His responsibility, if anything, is with regards to the immortals, because through caring and watching out for them, he keeps his promise to protect humanity
I really hope you enjoyed edelweiss. After i finish up trouble and maybe guardian, it's likely I'll stop writing. Thank you for everything.
