Once we are parked, I patiently wait for him as he walks to my side and opens the door, holding out his hand for me.

I graciously accept it, getting out of the car.

Taking a deep breath of fresh air, I smell all the scents that the scenery offers.

"I hope you don't mind walking the rest of the way. I feel it's the best way to take everything in." He says, smiling down at me.

"That sounds perfectly fine to me," I reply as he takes my hand in his and we make our way down the street.

He turns right, passing by the little mom-and-pop shops lined up and down the sidewalk.

We walk into a jewelry store and are greeted by a friendly old man.

He guides us into a private room and brings us champagne to drink while we wait on a lady named Rosalie.

"Don't worry about the price. If you see something you like, get it." He says, winking at me as we hear the jeweler come in.

"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Knight. I'll be delighted to present our newest collection, arriving this morning." She smiles, as six different employees make their way in with glass cases on rolling carts.

"We'll leave you two to look for yourselves. I'll be back in twenty minutes to check on the progress. Enjoy yourselves." She tells us, smiling as they all make their way back out the door.

Standing up from my chair, I walk around the room and examine all the beautiful diamonds, emeralds, and rubies.

I feel out of place and know I can afford none of these items.

A diamond necklace glistened under the lights, calling out to me.

It won't hurt to admire and try them on for just a moment, though.

Feeling Niko's presence behind me, a tingling sensation runs down my spine as he closes the distance between us. Grabbing my hand, he guides me in front of the mirrors that fill one side of the room.

He pulls out a slim silver chain, holding a single green emerald as a droplet.

"I promise to one day make sure you never shed another tear, but this will have to do for now." He says, placing the necklace around my neck.

"Thank you, Nikolaos. It isn't your job to fight my monsters for me, though. I have to learn how to do it myself." I state, on the verge of tears.

"That's where you're wrong, Elizabeth. If you'll open up to me, I'll take care of every one." He says, turning me around, and swiping away the tear falling down my cheek.

I lean into his touch, grateful for his warmth.

He picks me up, my legs wrapping around his waist as he walks back to his chair.

He sits down with me in his lap, connecting his lips to mine in a gentle kiss. Grabbing my thighs, he deepens the kiss.

I can feel him growing underneath me, wanting him to take the pain away again.

"Let's go, Elizabeth. I have more to show you before this evening." He says, breaking the kiss.

Putting me on my feet, he takes my hand in his.

He makes his way towards the door, not bothering to pay for the necklace. As we make our way past the register, I stop in my tracks.

A theft wasn't what I had in mind when I woke up this morning.

Glancing at the cashier, I feel she looks familiar. Niko pays the nice woman and then guides me out the door.

I'm not sure how to tell him I've been here before, as I watch his face light up when he tells me about each building's history.
