CHAPTER THREE
It was already lunchtime; my brother and I always hang out in the garden maze. He arrived earlier than I expected.
As soon as our eyes met, I opened my arms for him.
He ran to me, giggling, and hugged me. We sat inside the summer house, and I poured him tea with my favourite chocolate cookies.
His expressions indicated that he was anxious about something.
"What is it?" I asked, taking a sip from my cup.
"Are you tired of the proposals?".
His little fingers tapped on the cup.
I looked into his eyes, which were avoiding eye contact. I exhaled my breath and responded.
"Of course I am."
"Sister," he hesitated.
"yes?"
"I'm sorry if I'm disrespecting you."
"...."
I set the tea cup aside and crossed my arms with a big smile on my cheeks.
"Do you like someone? If yes, then I can help you talk with Father about it; please don't be upset."
I looked at him blankly as he panicked.
"Well, Reynold, you know it is complicated.".
"Tell me, I will help you.".
I laughed as he said that.
"How?"
"Tell me how that man is; I will spy on him."
I had picked up my tea cup to finish the leftovers. I choked on it as I heard what my ten-year-old brother said.
"SISTER?? ARE YOU ALRIGHT??"
He picked up the napkin from the table and cleaned up the mess I had created.
"I was just-"
"Walk with me to my room; I will tell you on the way.".
I stood up and told Cassandra to take back the cutlery inside.
We held hands as we started to walk to my chamber.
"Tell me, please," he pleaded.
"I will think of it."
Only to annoy him, I said that, but it made him beg for it even more. He started to jump maniacally all across the hallway. That earned the attention of the staff.
"Stop, or I will never talk to you about it again."
I glared at him, crossing my arms. He stopped immediately and apologised. I sighed out, since he is still young and doesn't know how to react when he is being watched. What a pure soul!
I took out my right hand to offer him a hold on them.
I kept looking down on the floor as we started to walk again.
"If I withdraw, could you become the Emperor?"
I said it bluntly without considering his feelings. His eyes looked at me without the sparkle that he always has in his eyes. My heart suffocated as I saw him.
"I want to become what my mother was.".
I gulped my saliva into my throat.
"You know why I asked you this question."
I sat on my knees to match his height and rested my hands on his shoulders.
"No," he pouted.
I inhaled the air as I continued, grabbed him close, and whispered
"THE TOP SECRET".
His eyes enlightened as he heard my words.
He whispered back in my ears.
"What secret".
"HUHU-"
"Tell meee". he pleaded.
"I told you about the guy I liked, right?"
"mhm."
"I don't know who he is; I saw him in my dreams and felt in love with him, so what if he has a high rank too and no one else to inherit the title? Unfortunately, I will have to leave mine.".
His face is easy to read; he got excited as I said that and looked at me, amazed.
"..."
"That's why I wasn't telling you all this." I stood up.
"Anyway, keep it a secret."
"Trust me with that, and don't worry, I will research it and tell you as soon as I get any clue.".
He chuckled
"Good boy."
I patted his head and kissed his forehead.
"Go back to your chamber; it's time for you to study. Marchioness could be waiting for you."
"Yes, your highness."
He took my hand and kissed the back of my palm.
"What a gentleman.".
He waved at me as he ran back.
I told him about the dream because he was upset, and even if he accidentally revealed it to anyone, I would handle that easily, saying it's just dumb and delusional.
The sun dawned, and it was time to sleep.
