CHAPTER SIX

"Say AAAAA, I will feed you.".

I would have died out of embarrassment. Like, who does that to a woman?

"Thank you for your concern and food, but I can eat it on my own.".

He took a step back, smiling.

"Alright, eat gradually.".

He placed another chair right in front of my face and sat on it. He placed his elbow at the table and rested his head on his palm, covering his half-lips and left cheek, glaring at me as I began to eat.

I took a spoon full of soup and drank it as I gulped it down my throat. I felt a sharp pain that made me drop the spoon from my hand. I got the same feeling as I got earlier when I was attacked. I touched my neck and felt stitches.

"My lady, are you alright?" he panicked.

Why am I so calm after I almost died?. I have a lot of questions to ask, but will I get the right answers?

"What happened earlier?"

I had a feeling that I had seen this kind of face before but couldn't recall it from my memory.

"You were attacked by an abnormal eagle.".

"I know what happened after that.".

"Uh, I kind of interfered. I was passing by the next trail to where you were. I heard your scream, so I rushed to get to you, and the eagle had already struck your neck, so I had no option other than cutting off its neck, which made your clothes bloody red.".

He saved me and sheltered me when I almost died without expecting anything back.

"Thank you so much for saving me; I owe you my life."

"Well, you're welcome. You must be thirsty. I will fetch up some water for you."

"Wait, how long was I unconscious for?".

"Not many"

I looked at him and waited for a response.

He gasped and raised his brows.

"Well, when I treated your wounds, you didn't respond for three nights because you had a heavy fever, and then later you started to talk when you were asleep; it was the fourth night, and the fifth morning you got up and tried to run, but I stopped you, and I'm so glad that you woke up when I was here or else you could have collapsed due to weakness, out in the forest."

"I was unconscious for five nights????"

"Yep! Now that I have answered you, I'll go and bring water before it's dark. Don't get too close to the door or window; they will fall off at any moment."

I nodded with a smile. I was very happy that I was saved—not just saved; he treated the wound that I got and took care of me for five days. He might be unknown, but he doesn't feel unknown.

As he went out, I noticed that the dress I wore that day was hanging on a nail, washed, and dried up. It was too late to realise that I was wearing something that I don't remember wearing myself. Someone else dressed me up, but who was here other than that man? Not only that, but I'm wearing a man shirt. It is so embarrassing to think that someone other than Cassie dressed me up. Or perhaps he mistook me for a child?.

Oh, Lord, I'm so embarrassed. I need to put myself together!!

I slapped my face with both of my hands. Come to think of it, the shirt I'm wearing right now is long, covering my kneecaps. It's probably his.

Also, he doesn't look like he lives here. I mean, who good-looking man would live in an old shack like this?.

"Ahh! I want to go out," I yelled out.

"I'm home". He came back the moment I opened my mouth.

"You want to go out. Well, you will have to wait for tomorrow; it's creepy dark outside."

"Oh, do you live here?" I looked up at him.

"Nope," he smiled.

He walked to get a wooden cup; he rinsed it and poured out water for me.

"Are you a knight?".

"Nope," he said, keeping his smile.

"Here, drink it, lady."

"Thank you," I said, lifting the cup to my mouth.

"I'm a traveller," he said, starting to rub his hands nervously.

"What about you?" His eyes looked into mine.

He looked like he was lying; he looks like a noble, but he didn't mention it.

"I'm a commoner."

I heard people screaming down the road.

"Oh, is that so?" He smirked

"They must be here; get them and kill them."

I rushed to the window. I saw the whole town burning into ashes, or it looked like hundreds of men carrying firelights. Everything is so unclear. My eyes are trembling, and my body is getting cold, as if I'm a dead corpse.

"Step back," he said, pulling me back and covering me with his cloak.

"We need to leave.".
