Something as small as a gift made him panic . It was a stupid thing to admit , at least to him .

But , how could he not panic ? When you think about it , its completely fair .
Hes lost these people before , what if they replace him .?

That's what happened to Space , of course , his own father figure gave someone something . And , of course , he panicked .
Its a stupid thing to panic over , but he didn't want some redhead with anger issues to replace him !

Sitting in his room , upset and zoned out , Space was alone in his room , as his roommate , Grey , was with Buddy at the moment .
A knock on the door is what snapped him out of his zoning out .
Space stood up from the bed , going over to the door and opening it slightly .

" Hm ? "
It was Vernias ..? Why was he ..
" Hey , Space , are you okay ? "

Ah , the usually check in he does .. he usually does this for everyone . Even Metal Sonic !
Amy usually does the same thing .. but she sometimes forgets .

Space looked to the side , replying with a soft " yea . "
But ,
Vernias seemed to know he was lying .
" If .. something is on your mind , you can tell me .. "
" I'm okay . "
" You seem upset .. "

Space stepped away from the door , opening it fully to allow Vernias to walk in . And he entered .
Closing the door behind him , he asked;

" so .. what's on your mind ..? "
" I .. I j- I saw you giving Knuckles some present and I .. got worried you were gonna .. replace me and ..- "
" Space . Listen .. "

Vernias put his hand on Spaces shoulder .
" You don't have to worry about that .. Knuckles is like- my age ! He couldn't be a replacement for you even if he tried to be . You aren't gonna be replaced , kiddo . "
He smiled softly , causing a small smile to form on Spaces face .

" Really ..? "
A nod in response from Vernias .
" I- I'm sorry if I'm worrying too much .. I .. I just- "
" Shh .. its alright bud . "

Spaces smile grew a bit bigger , " t- thanks , by the way .. "
" For what ? " Vernias asked , confused .
" For letting me get that out , I've .. been worried that everyone's been trying to replace me n shit .. Ever since that damned Dark Lord took you guys I .. I've been worried about losing you guys even more now .. I mean I always was worried but .. now it's gotten worse .. "

Space rubbed his own arm , looking to the side again .
Vernias sighed slightly , patting Spaces head .
" Hey , we're stronger now . You won't have to worry about losing us . And .. we won't replace you . We couldn't even if we tried , you saved us after all . "
Vernias ruffled Spaces hair slightly.

" You're like our hero in a way . And I'm proud of you for how far you've come because of this adventure . "

Space couldn't hold back anymore . Space hugged Vernias with somewhat of a tackle . Not enough to knock him down , but enough to make him stumble back a bit .
It caught him off guard a bit , but , he hugged back .
Small sobbing sounds came from the young boy as he hugged the other , a small , muffled ; " thank you " came out .
He hadn't heard words like that before . Nobody has ever told him something like that . It hit him hard . It was like being hugged while in a warm blanket .

After a bit , the sobs stopped .
" Feeling better now ? "
Space gave a small nod in response , Vernias smiled .
" Good .. I think Amy finished dinner , you wanna head down to eat ? Or did the sobbing tire you out to the point where you aren't hungry ? "
" I'm not that tired out .. and yea , I'm getting hungry .. "
