That one summer

I really wanted to go myself with ice cream, just so that I could see her again before she left and also maybe steal a kiss. But Dec & I were asked to stay back to help clean up. Rhys slipped away early to get some sleep before he headed out with Ev in the morning. Sometimes I feel these two might be dating secretly and are just putting up a show in front of our parents.

I looked up at Dec stacking chairs while I was wiping the tables down, our parents were winding things up inside, "Dec"

"Yeah"

I paused the table wiping and stayed silent for a moment deciding if should I let him on my intrusive thoughts and then decided not to. It would simply cause a stir if I am completely wrong.

Dec looked back towards me and sprayed the water on me bringing me out of my thoughts, "Rhino, you need to speak after you call a person. Or did you lose your brain somewhere in the kitchen?"

I stared blankly at him, "How do you know about that?"

"I came looking for extra glasses and that is when I saw you guys all cozied up."

"We looked cute didn't we."

"I chose not to stay long enough to see if my best friend with his tongue down my team member's throat looked cute or not."

I threw the dirty towel at him before he could spray the water at me again, it was about to turn into a spray match before Dec's mom came in saying they had winded up things downstairs and left the key for us to lock it up.

We finished the rest quickly, locked up the restaurant, and started walking back home. "So, I would need your help at work to convince Rory to go out with me."

Dec looked at me with a sheepish smile, "You have got it bad"

"Yeah yeah, so will you help me or not."

Dec paused and looked towards me, "Are you sure, like 100%? I know Aurora, she is a lovely woman but I am more worried about you."

"Yes, I am as certain as I will kick your ass in surfing tomorrow."

That made Dec laugh. I am aware that everyone was concerned when I brought Rory in, as she was the first girl I had brought home after the incident. Today morning when we were about to leave for the restaurant my parents stated they liked Rory. And so did I, but Rory was not aware of it yet.

"Fine, what do you need help with?"

"I do not have a full plan yet, but how about we start with smaller things? I will send you the list."

"You already have the list prepared!"

"Yeah, but it is not ready yet."

Dec shook his head laughing "Alright, send me the list. I will see what I can do. But just so you know I am on Aurora's side at work."

I snapped my head towards him, "Not happening, stay clear of her."

As he entered his driveway he shouted back "You do realise that I am her boss right, so that means at work I will be taking her side if you get caught doing anything stupid."

I scoffed at him "As if I will ever do that"

He gave me a knowing look. Dec is very well aware I attract idiotic ideas when I am nervous. He turned around to enter his home and before entering he called out, "See you in the morning and be ready because I will be the one kicking your ass."

With that, he was off. Living in Leeds has made me appreciate surfing much more than I used to when I was younger. My grandad was the one who taught all four of us how to surf.
