" Oh, C'mon. You cannot love her that much,"
" You are right. I don't love her that much.......... I love her much more than anyone can ever imagine. She's my life,"
" Then why are you here, without her? Why leave her there and come here? You could've brought her along," the reminiscent smile vanished from his face as he answered...Risking her life?
Never.
He would rather die.He had just managed to get her back from Raniganj, see his son for the first time, and embrace her ever so lovingly after so long. He would not give up on either of those just because of his dreams.
Yes. It was his dream to explore the world and experience other nations' cultures and traditions. He wanted to unite his kingdom with the rest of the world, unlike what his entire family supported. But he knew that there were many risks associated with his dream coming true.
Many people were waiting for him to make the smallest mistake to overthrow him or worse, kill him off.
He was not going to risk it all by bringing her with him.
Besides, who could he have even been able to trust to rule his kingdom if not for her?
" The ruthless king's shameless wife," " How could she even take over the throne?" " Do you remember how she slit that poor man's throat?" " What else can you expect from a woman who has been to Raniganj?" " I toh have doubts if the prince is even our king's real son," " Shh!! Don't talk loudly... If she hears us, she will have us killed as well,"
He trusted her with everything.
But what about their subjects?
The people he left her back with...
The people she needed to protect and nurture....
Did they even trust her?
Because no matter what happened, they were going talk about her behind her back. Everyone knew that. No matter how much terror she spread across the kingdom, people were still going to talk. No matter if she were right or wrong, she was just a material for gossip and hatred.
If she saved lives or not, didn't matter.
If she handled the country safely and punished the guilty properly, didn't matter.
The only thing that mattered to people was that she was a woman.
"She must've bewitched the King", they said. Because she couldn't have ever been capable of taking care of the entire kingdom.
And now that she had declared that her confidence was not going to waver, people hated her even more.
They hated her for being something that wasn't normal. They hated her for not listening to the norms and not adhering to their biased customs.
They hated that they couldn't fight against her. They hated that a woman, with so much confidence and valour was ruling over them.
They hated that they feared a woman...
So, there was only one way for her to rule...
She knew that they were never going to trust or acknowledge her as their ruler and as she held her sleeping son in one arm, and a ton of papers in another. As she used her head to try and solve the kingdom's new "Female Queen" problem, and her heart fixed on her peacefully asleep child, she knew that there was only one way that they couldn't overthrow her.
And it was to be the worst queen ever.
To be so ruthless, that any man would think twice before opening his mouth in front of her.
To be so evil that even her maids feared her presence.
To be such a bad person, that people feared angering her... She needed to be the queen of everyone's nightmares to protect her son and the kingdom from the clutches of greedy old men.Although her husband had taken care of a lot of them, there were still some filthy, dirty old men lurking around, waiting for the perfect chance so that they could take everything away from her and she was not going to give them that chance at all.
" If only you were here sohi..." she wondered with tears in her eyes as she looked at all the papers she needed to get sorted before the next day's court.
" If only you were here pari..." he wondered as he looked at the tallest building he had ever seen in his life. The king desperately wanted to show it to his wife...
" What're you wondering?" his companion asked him as she saw him stare intently at the sky scraper in front of them
" Just... If I can get closer to the moon if I climb up that..." he wondered out loud
" Why? Want to gift the moon to your "wife"?" she laughed but he turned and gave her a grim look to her
" No. The moon is nothing in comparison to her beauty," he stated, as if he were just stating normal facts and got a serious face as he turned away from the lady who was escorting him on his adventure.
" Sure," she replied curtly, a little hurt as she turned her face around to hide her irritation" Why? Would you like someone to get the moon for you?" he didn't know why but he felt a weird sort of feeling when he saw her turn her head away from him. He felt differently and couldn't put his finger on why he even asked that question but he did.
" Hmmm," she turned around to look at him with curiosity now. Naina really could not figure out if the king liked her or just saw her as a friend because at one moment he would be completely clear about the fact that he loved his wife whilst on the other moment, he would ask her questions like those... Questions that insinuated that he could have feelings for him. She was really confused and attracted at the same time" No. I would get the moon for my lover..."
Why did it touch his heart? Why were her words so comforting yet intriguing? Why was his heart beating so very hard...?
His heart belonged to Pari....
Right?
