I was surprised that Kai had got himself a house in the town. I was expecting something much more lowkey, maybe a little bit smaller. I should have known Kai would go the extra mile to make his time in Mystic Falls much more comfortable.

In fact I wasn't expecting him to take us to a house at all, I was expecting the motel that I'd dropped him off at the day prior. A quiet night in a creepy and somewhat isolated motel was Kai's version of heaven. It fit his vibe perfectly.

The house was located just near the border and only ten minutes from the Salvatore's. I would have to actively avoid telling them that information until I was certain that they wouldn't kill Kai.

As soon as I'd stepped foot inside, I could already see parts of Kai's personality displayed in the house. He'd been there five minutes but it seemed like he'd lived in it for much longer. The living room to the left of the entryway of the stairs had Kai written all over it. The couches were black leather, a large grey rug lay under them, accompanied by a dark oak coffee table. Everything was cohesive and went well together.

I was very impressed with him.

He didn't turn on the lights to the entryway as he came in behind me. The only light we had was from the landing light upstairs and a four foot tall red lava lamp on a side table in the living room.

Dark silhouettes danced across the walls as Kai moved towards the stairs. The light left only my face illuminated as he no longer stared into the house like I did. Perhaps he could sense the way I was analysing him- I couldn't help it.

I wasn't sure what I was expecting Kai's interior design style to be, but it was much darker and more artsy than I could have imagined Kai designing. It was also much more modern than the houses you saw in Mystic Falls. In general the houses hadn't changed much, or if at all, from when the town was founded.

"Come. Clean up." Was all he said as he made his way up the stairs. I dropped my jacket with all my stuff in onto the end post of the banister and followed him.

"I thought we were gonna talk?" I voiced an inner thought that had been nagging in the back of my mind. Kai didn't bother to respond and I wasn't surprised considering the argument we'd had in the car. We'd squashed it, I guess, so maybe it was better that we left it alone than hash anything out again. It was done and dusted to him.

The upstairs hallway was just as moodily designed as downstairs. A large industrial-looking chandelier hung from the ceiling and I liked it. However my favourite part had to be the front facing balcony. Out the window, I could see down the road into town one way and out towards Whitmore the other. It was perfect for Kai. He was secluded and away from regular people, but not enough that he felt like was in Portland again - Or the Prison World for that matter.

He could people watch without being creepy too.

Typical.

Kai raised an eyebrow at me as I turned to him.. He was eager to get out of his blooded clothes and I wasn't going to complain if he was shirtless in front of me again. Kai gestured to the bathroom and opened it without saying a word.

As he entered the bathroom, he didn't waste a second in his clothes and he tore off his t shirt in one swift movement. I watched him undress in the reflection from the mirror. The scars on his back stood out in the dim light and for a moment it was like seeing them for the first time all over again.
