episode six ~ baby

"You're going to spend the night?" Gia asked, laying on Nicco's naked chest in her bed, drawing random objects on his chest.

"If you want me to," he looked down at her. Gia raised her head, looking at him.

"I do," she said.

"Then I will," he said, pulling her up to give her a kiss, both of them smiling against the other's lips.

Laying her head back onto his chest, she let out a happy sigh, closing her eyes, "okay."

———

Waking up in the morning next to Nicco had put a smile on Gia's face for the whole day.

Walking to the school field where Nicco had texted her to meet him, she saw him leaning against the railing, his head in his hands.

"Hey," she greeted, putting a kiss on his cheek with a grin.

Nicco turned around, his face grim.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Gia asked, her grin falling, instead concern crossed over her features and she put a comforting hand on his back.

"I fucked up," Niccolo said.

Gia raised her eyebrows, trying not to overthink his words and not show the fear in her eyes.

Taking a deep breath, she kept her hand still on him, "okay, go on," she encouraged, ignoring her heart beating.

Keeping his eyes on her, he gritted his teeth together, "Virginia's pregnant."

Gianna's heart dropped to her stomach, she stayed silent for a little while, trying to make sense of his words. "What?" Gianna's hand fell from his back.

"Virginia's pr-"

"No I heard you the first time," Gia told him, her breathing unsteady and her eyebrows furrowed. "I.. I'm confused.." she trailed off, shaking her head in disbelief.

"She told me earlier today," Nicco admitted.

"Does she want to keep it?"

"I guess so," Nicco shrugged, averting his gaze from the blonde.

"I thought you guys were over," she said, her eyes watering, "you promised, Nicco."

"We were, but what do you want me to do?" He snapped, looking back to her. "Leave her all alone in it?"

Gianna shook her head slowly, "no, of course not," she looked on the ground, hiding her tears from him, quickly blinking in hopes he wouldn't notice.

But he did, "I'm sorry, Gia. But I should be there for her," he looked at her. You could see pain written all over his face, he looked to be as devastated as Gia was from this situation.

Gia nodded, pursing her lips together, "yeah, of course. I get it," she told him and walked away from him, leaving him standing there with his head in his hands, trying not to cry.

Gianna let the tears fall as she made her way home. There was no way she would go back to classes, not today.

———

"Anna?" Her dad's voice carried through the whole house as Gia came home from meeting Nicco, her eyes still red and teary.

"Yeah?" She called out, trying to make her voice sound steady. She definitely failed as her father walked into the hallway, staring at his daughter in concern.

"Everything okay?" He asked, basically analyzing her.

"Yeah, of course," she kept her gaze down, pretending to have a hard time taking off her shoes. "I'm going into my room."

"We're worried about you," he said, as she made her way past him into her room, making her freeze. "You can talk to me. Or Rosa. Or whoever you want, you know."

Not turning around to look at him, not wanting to make him even worried by letting him see her teary eyes, she nodded. "Yup. There's nothing to worry about."

Leaving her father standing in the hallway, still watching her as she walked into her room with concern on his face.

Closing the door behind her, she plopped on her bed, face buried in her pillow.

She let herself cry for some time, before calming down and taking out her phone and the note from Giovani.

Staring at the note for some time, she finally made a decision and dialed the phone number.

"Hello?" Giovani answered after few rings.

"Hey, it's Gianna. From Marge?" She said, her mind flashing to the night she first called Eliseo.

Giovani was quiet for a while, "Gianna. I didn't think you would call after how you left."

"I'm sorry about that," she bit her lip. "It was a misunderstanding. I would like to meet up again," she boldly ask. "If you're interested," her heart pounded loudly in her chest, scared he will reject her.

"Of course I'm interested," he said and you could hear the smile on his face.

"Under one condition."

"I'm listening."

"No paying. I'm not meeting up with you because it's a job or whatever. I'm doing it because I want to," she said, breathing heavily.

"That's fine by me," Giovani nodded.

"And no Fiore," she continued. "I don't know what he told you the first night, but I'm not working for him. So if you think you have to pay him, then don't."

"Okay," he said, little uncertain.

"Tonight?" Gia asked.

"Tonight?" Giovani asked, surprised.

"Is that a problem for you?"

"No. I'm free. Just didn't expect it so soon."

"Al Dente. At eight. Does that work for you?" She asked, closing her eyes and quietly wondered what the hell she was doing.

"I'll be there," he said, smile on his face.

"Great. See you then," she hung up, smile on her face, excited for her date. But also nervous.
