Y/n stirred awake in the dimly lit room, her eyes adjusting to the surroundings. As she opened her eyes, she spotted her mother and another woman seated on the couch nearby. Sensing her wakefulness, the nurse beside her gently assisted her into a sitting position.
Her mother approached, enveloping her in a warm embrace, and y/n gratefully nestled into her comforting presence. Then, the woman beside her inquired, "How do you feel, y/n?"
Y/n blinked a few times, still groggy from her sleep, before turning her attention to the woman who had spoken. She studied her for a moment, taking in her kind eyes and gentle demeanor.
"I feel... tired," y/n admitted softly, her voice hoarse from the ordeal she had been through. "But I think I'll be okay."
The woman nodded understandingly, offering a reassuring smile. "You've been through a lot, dear. But you're safe now."
Y/n managed a weak smile in return, feeling a sense of relief wash over her at the woman's words. Safe. It was a word she hadn't felt in a long time.
"Thank you," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Y/n's mother gently introduced the woman beside her. "Y/n, she's Taehyung's mother," she said, prompting y/n to blink in confusion.
"W..who's Taehyung?" Y/n's voice trembled with uncertainty.
"He's your mate," her mother replied calmly. Y/n's heart sank at the sudden revelation, her mind flashing back to the dominance and cruelty of Prince Adrian.
"Yes, dear. Taehyung is my son. He's soon going to be the king of the pack. You and your mother are completely safe here, you don't have to worry," Taehyung's mother reassured them with a warm smile.
The woman placed a comforting hand on y/n's mother's shoulder and added, "And we both are already besties." Their laughter filled the room, unaware of the turmoil stirring within y/n. Yet, the sound of her mother's laughter brought a sense of peace amidst the uncertainty.
Y/n's deep-seated aversion to the term "alpha" stemmed from the painful memories of her father's actions and the suffering her mother endured at his hands. For her, the word carried a weight of betrayal, cruelty, and injustice.
She had witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by abuse of power and dominance, vowing never to let anyone with such authority dictate her life again. To y/n, alphas represented everything she despised: oppression, control, and manipulation.
Despite the assurances of safety and kindness from those around her, y/n couldn't shake off the ingrained fear and distrust that had become a part of her being. The scars left by her father's actions ran deep, serving as a constant reminder of the dangers posed by those who held positions of power.
For y/n, breaking free from the shadow of her past meant forging her own path, one devoid of the influence and dominance of alphas. It was a journey of healing, self-discovery, and reclaiming her autonomy, one step at a time.
As night descended, Taehyung entered y/n's room, unaware of her wakefulness. The nurse had just departed, leaving them alone in the quiet sanctuary of the room. Taehyung's breath caught in his throat as he beheld the sight before him.
Y/n's gaze met his, her light green eyes shimmering with tears that streamed down her face like silent rivers of sorrow. The anguish etched upon her features tugged at Taehyung's heartstrings, stirring a tumult of emotions within him. She appeared weary, her vulnerability making her all the more endearing yet painful to witness.
