When Bluey got home, her family was eating dinner. Chilli was about to get mad, but then she saw her daughter's bloodshot eyes. Now wasn't the time to yell.

"Would you like dinner later, Blues?" Chilli asked.

Bluey nodded, then trudged up to her room. She shut the door, then fell on the bed with her football uniform still on, her backpack hanging off her shoulders, and ten trays of Oreos in her hands. Then she started to cry. Not a quick tear-filled realization, but deep, cleansing sobs.

Was Mackenzie telling the truth?, Bluey thought to herself, repeated silently for hours until she came to the fact that it meant that she didn't want to be with Mackenzie. She wanted to be with Jean-Luc.

Jean-Luc! Bluey sat up in bed, then looked at the time on her phone. It was nearly one in the morning. One in the morning? How did that happen?

I fell asleep, Bluey realized. Then she checked her phone for new messages.

There were hundreds of new messages on her phone. Some were from Coach Rottweiler, demanding why Bluey hadn't come back to football practice. Some were from Chloe, asking if Bluey was all right. But most of the messages were from the enormous group chat.

Coco had thrown a huge fit, apparently, when Mackenzie had told her the truth about why he agreed to kiss her under the bleachers. Indy and Rusty had immediately gone to Bluey's and Coco's sides, exclaiming that Mackenzie shouldn't have used the pink poodle like that to practice kissing on Bluey.

That is just disgusting!! -Indy  Rusty typed out. Indy frequently used Rusty's phone because her mother wouldn't let her have her own, claiming that the "cosmic rays from technology would fry your brain." Indy's mother was a true hippie.

well, i needed someone to practice on! Mackenzie yelled back.

Then use a CPR dummy! Pretzel typed.

no thats just weird Mackenzie insisted.

whats weird is using a girl to practice KISSING  Honey exclaimed.

its none of ur buisness honey beagle  Mackenzie argued. wheres bluey i need to talk to her in person

no, u dont  Bluey typed. im done with this. is jean-luc in this chat?

dont think so Chloe answered.

who has his number?  Bluey asked.

u mean u dont? thought u loved him Mackenzie typed out.

ok thats just petty -Indy  Indy from Rusty's phone argued.

hold up. y r u talking on rustys phone at 1 am??  Honey asked.

i stole it from him - Indy  Indy said.

y?? Chloe asked curiously.

ohmigosh im just borrowing it because hes at cricket camp and they dont allow phones Indy texted.

anyways! Bluey texted. who has jean-luc's number??

i do. needed it 4 a group project, Coco texted.

coco!!! the entire group chat exclaimed.

omg where've u been girl?? Honey asked.

Bluey smiled. thx coke. i owe u one.

yea, u do. but thats ok. im sorry that i let a boy get between us, and im sorry that i unleashed that all on u  Coco texted. lets talk about this in person. id be a crap person to talk about serious stuff over text.

agreed. signing off  Bluey wrote. She switched over to texting Jean-Luc.

Hey Jean-Luc, this is Bluey. I got your number from Coco. I need to talk.

Jean-Luc replied immediately. About what?

Bluey frowned. What did she want to talk about? She took a deep breath in, then a deep breath out.

There's been a lot of drama about me and my love life, but I want to make a final descision. I, Bluey Heeler, want to ask you, Jean-Luc Labrador, out to the movies on Saturday night. Will you go with me?  She sent it, then nervously glanced at her email every minute until the three dots blinked then went away. A reply finally showed itself on Bluey's phone screen.

Of course I will.

Bluey jumped up and down on her bed, whooping and hollering and generally creating mayhem until Bingo yelled, "Go to sleep!"

Bluey then plopped onto her bed and began to dream lovestruck teenager dreams. For the first time in a very long time, she was happy. As she drifted off to sleep, the heeler dog thought, Things can't get any better.

Well, the bigger you are, the harder you fall.
