I snapped back to reality when I suddenly heard the birds chirping outside the window, and I quickly turn my head to it. The dark blue sky had turned lighter than before and rays of the sunlight were shining across the room. I glanced at the digital clock that laid on the night-table beside the bed, and it read,
7:00 AM
Three hours had passed and I never noticed...
I sighed, rubbing my eyes as I tried to get used to my surroundings again, when I heard a knock on the door. My focus shifts to the opening door, as a young, pale woman with short, pink hair appeared, carrying a metal tray that had two pieces of toast and a glass of chocolate milk. Her hair hid her left eye, and her bandage almost covered the other. As my focus turned clearer, I saw that she wore a black vest jacket with a grey undershirt and a chain belt, with the belt buckle being heart shaped. She also wore black, fingerless gloves.
"Breakfast," she said absent-mindedly, as she carried the tray and set it upon the bed beside me, then sat down on my left. "Say, you seem to be wide awake," she began, eyeing me in concern. "Haven't slept?"
I tried to speak, but nothing came out of my mouth, so I just gave her a small nod of my head in response. She chuckled. "I see. You should try and catch up later. I'm Star, by the way,'' she said, as she extended her hand to me. I looked down at it, frowning.
"You don't need to shake it, if you don't want to." Star reassured me, smiling. "What's your name?"
I tried my hardest to remember my name, but nothing appeared in my head–she seemed to notice this. "Oh... I see. I can come up with a name for you!" she said brightly, and I nodded my head in excitement; to have a name of my own excites me. Star leaned closer to me, and first touched the left side of my face—"Noob,"—then my right side—"Guest!" she finished, smiling. Her touch made me flinch at first, but I quickly got used it. She doesn't mean any harm to me, I thought, as she leaned away.
I saw that Star's gaze was now focusing on the food that rested upon the tray next to me when she said, "Take a toast. You must be starving." I carefully observed the piece of toast, before taking it into my hands gingerly and taking a small bite. It was hard for me to eat something due to my stitches, but I managed–as I bit into the toast, the warmth and crunchiness filled my senses–the silence between us seemed lighter now, and her gaze lingered on me, as she waited for my response.
"So...?"
I turned to her, smiling. I managed to get a few words out of my mouth.
"Thank you." I said, my voice low. I was a bit worried, wondering if she wouldn't be able to hear me, but she seemed to have understood me, because now there was a bright smile on her face.
"Great! Well, can't stick around for long." Star said, getting up and stretching. Then she turned to me. "Say, want to come with me?"
