The crisp morning air hummed with anticipation as the students braced themselves for the impending physical training session. Memories of Teacher Liu's instructions lingered in their minds as they filed into the classroom, their thoughts already focused on the practical challenges ahead.
The first three periods passed in a blur of theories and discussions, but it was the final period that truly tested their mettle. Led by Teacher Liu, they made their way to a sprawling track, a daunting 500 meters stretched out before them. Liu Bei's booming voice cut through the air as he issued instructions, commanding his students to complete ten laps around the track.
"Ten laps around this track. Since it's your first time, I'll spare you the difficulty of setting a time limit."
A collective sigh of relief rippled through the group until Liu Bei added a caveat.
"But you must not use your spirit power."
Groans and moans erupted as the students processed this new restriction. Running ten laps was challenging enough, but without the aid of their spirit power, the task became exponentially more difficult.
"Do not attempt to cheat," warned Liu Bei sternly. "I can sense even the tiniest use of spirit power. Those caught will face punishment."
Those who had planned on cheating felt their hopes dashed.
"If there are no further questions, you may begin."
With that, the students launched into action, each one pushing themselves to their limits without relying on their spirit power.
As the first lap concluded, exhaustion began to set in, sweat beading on their faces. Qian Ruoxi was the first among the group of running students while Ye Heng was also beside her, keeping his pace with her. Mei Renyu followed closely behind.
Having endured grueling training under Qian Daoliu in the Elder Palace, Qian Ruoxi found the task manageable. Ye Heng, the only one able to keep pace with her, matched her stride. Even Qian Ruoxi was surprised by the fact that he could match her pace without any sign of exhaustion visible on his face. Mei Renyu, being a one-ringed spirit master, ran with relative ease compared to her classmates.
Whereas Lin Xiang and Yun Caihong had a hard time. They, along with a few students, were among the weakest in the class and were running extremely slowly. Their bodies were not built for endurance, and they struggled to keep up with the other students. With each lap, their movements became slower and more labored. Sweat poured down their faces as they pushed themselves beyond their limits. Lin Xiang's usual energy and liveliness faded, and she became extremely exhausted. Yun Caihong, who had a delicate body, was also exhausted. By the time both of them completed one lap, Qian Ruoxi had already completed four laps.
"I never expected this to be so grueling," Lin Xiang gasped between breaths, her usual energy and liveliness draining away. She felt like she was going to collapse at any moment. Even Yun Caihong, known for her delicate physique, looked drained and exhausted. But despite their physical exhaustion, they continued on, determined to finish the task.
"Back home, I thought working in my grandpa's medicinal herb field was tough," Lin Xiang panted as she ran. "But this...this is a whole different level."
She couldn't help but chatter about her experiences working in the fields with her grandpa, even though it only made it harder for her to catch her breath.
Yun Caihong, who became the victim to Lin Xiang's constant chattering couldn't help but said through her panting, "Da Jie, if you saved your energy for running instead of talking, maybe you would have completed this task long ago!"
Hearing this Lin Xiang pouted. The rest of the lap was peace for them as Lin Xiang became silent. Literally, she was too tired for talking.
As the laps progressed, students became utterly exhausted. Some halted running, while others fell on the ground due to exhaustion. Ye Heng, who was keeping pace with Qian Ruoxi for seven laps, couldn't keep it up anymore. Mei Renyu became exhausted after five laps, but she still gritted her teeth and ran without stopping. Not long after, Qian Ruoxi came first after completing 10 laps. She turned towards her friends. Seeing Yun Caihong and Lin Xiang about to faint from exhaustion, she immediately ran towards them and supported them.
"Guys, you can do it. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. As long as you can persevere, even if you slow down to the point of walking, you will definitely conquer this track."
When Lin Xiang and Yun Caihong heard Qian Ruoxi's words, they became determined and with newfound strength began to run slowly but steadily.
Qian Ruoxi's voice, laced with determination, not only affected Lin Xiang and Yun Caihong but also affected the surrounding students. One by one, the students who had fallen and halted stood up and began to run.
Ye Heng also turned to Yun Caihong during his turn in the second-last lap and said,
"Come on! You can do it."
Yun Caihong smiled at him despite her obvious tiredness on her sweaty face.
Ye Heng became the second one to complete after Qian Ruoxi and was followed by Mei Renyu and other students. Finally, everyone completed the 10 laps without any stop and lay on the ground with utter exhaustion.
Liu Bei was watching the whole process and was extremely satisfied with the students' performance. He was more astonished by the leadership qualities of Qian Ruoxi.
'As expected of the Supreme Elder's daughter,' Liu Bei thought.
Yesterday, Archbishop Laurence had called him to inform him about Qian Ruoxi's identity as well as the conditions she put forward. Even though he wondered why the Supreme Elder's daughter would study in this academy, since the education provided at the Elder Palace and also by the Supreme Elder himself is better than here. But he didn't voice it out. Watching Qian Ruoxi helping the students, motivating them to not give up, Liu Bei had to admit the fact that this six-year-old has the potential to lead the Spirit Hall to its glory. The future of Spirit Hall will be even more prosperous under her leadership.
