"I'll show them love is worthless." Silena grumbled, as her sister adjusted the straps. "I'll pulverize them!"
"Or you could respect their point of view." Cherry suggested, which made Silena laugh. "It's so cute you think that!" The black-haired girl ruffled her sister's hair.
The camp team consisted of Beckendorf and two other Hephaestus kids, Ares campers, the Stoll brothers, Nico, and some of Cherry's siblings.
"Cherry! I need help with my armor, too." Connor called out to the red-haired girl.
Cherry made a face at him. "You're already wearing it."
"No, I'm not." He denied, removing his armor and letting it fall to the ground.
"Oh, I can help you." Percy grinned, tucking Riptide into his pocket,
"Never mind." Connor picked up his chest plate.
"No, I insist." Percy offered.
Nico ran up to Cherry, one hand on his helmet as he did so. "Guys, this is awesome! Do we get to kill the other team?"
"Unfortunately not." Theo answered, holding a plastic box.
"Definitely not." Cherry corrected.
"But the hunters are immortal, right?" Nico wanted to confirm, which was concerning.
"Not if they die." Cherry said and then began to think. "So then, does that make them not immortal?"
"They die if they fall in battle." Theo corrected.
"It would be awesome if we just, like, resurrected as soon as we were killed, so we could keep fighting, and-" Nico began to ramble, being cut off by the sound of Chiron's hooves on the pavilion floor.
"Heroes!" Chiron called. "You know the rules! The creek is the boundary line. Blue team, Camp Half-Blood, shall take the West Woods. Hunters of Artemis, red team, shall take the East woods. Cherry and I will serve as referees and battlefield medics. No intentional maiming, please! All magic items are allowed. To your positions!"
"Blue team! Follow me!" Thalia called out.
Cherry put a hand on Nico's shoulder. "Follow Thalia. You'll do great. Be safe, okay?"
"Don't suck." Theo held his thumb up, a habit he'd unknowingly developed from Cherry.
"I'll try not to." Nico grinned and followed his team.
Cherry and Theo settled on a nearby log, pulling bracelet-making supplies from the box he'd been carrying. Chiron stood off to the side, watching over them.
