That same night, not too far from where Angel Island fell, was a jungle filled with the worn-down ruins of an ancient civilization. These ruins were almost completely undocumented, and so the area had come to be known as the Mystic Ruins. "Deep in this jungle," explorers would whisper amongst themselves as they sat around a campfire, "lives a massive beast." It was described as having an enormous striped body and massive claws and fangs. You'd know you were near its domain when you saw the bones of huge fish it had yanked from the water and devoured.
It was near this beast's cobbled-together jungle hut of a home, as the beast and his companion slept beneath a starry sky devoid of light pollution, that a certain other creature's liquid tail landed in the rich soil with a deep, bassy KERSPLOOSH. The green frog who had been sleeping on the jungle beast's soft white belly was woken up by the noise, and hopped off to investigate it. Only a short distance from the hut, the frog encountered a strange blue puddle, moving and pulsing. The form was so bizarre, that he didn't even notice as it got closer to him, until it was too late.
"Mmm... Frog...gy?" The gigantic beast stirred from his slumber and slowly sat up in his wooden bed, wondering where his considerably smaller amphibian friend had hopped off to. He was deeply disturbed to see in the leaves before him, Froggy twitching and convulsing, the blue mass seemingly forcing its way into the frog's mouth and down his throat. The frog then stopped moving, and a tail sprouted from his lower back- a tail that ended in a diamond shape, swishing back and forth. "Frog...gy...? Froggy!" Froggy turned around to face his former, considerably larger feline friend, who watched on in confusion as Froggy's eyes turned from a yellow color to a neon green, his sideways split pupils disappearing entirely.
"What... happen?" Big the Cat tried to voice his thoughts and reached towards his friend, as Froggy darted around him. Back in the hut, the transformed Froggy ambled over to face the yellow Chaos Emerald Big had picked up a few months ago. "Treasure!" Big shouted. The possessed frog promptly opened his mouth far wider than he should have been able to, and swallowed the Emerald whole, before turning and vanishing into the jungle. All of this had happened far faster than Big's simple mind could process, and the confusion and chaos was too much for him to handle. "My... treasure... my... my friend! Froggy!" The jungle floor shook as Big desperately began searching the dirt, the water, the leaves, the vines, anywhere his gigantic body could fit, under anything his surprisingly powerful muscles could lift. Upset and confused, he searched through the night, combing the entire jungle, but with no trace of Froggy. "Froggy... where are you?" he would frantically call out, unaware that his friend was now a pawn of a vengeful, otherworldly god...
