Run Away | Percy Jackson AU

The Prologue:

The shadow grew bigger and bigger. Percy looked up scared. It promised that it would be back, and it is.

Percy awoke with a shock. The cardboard box that kept him comfy wet from his sweat. He grabbed his small pocket knife he had kept since he left his old home. He didn't know much, but he did know that he was the child of Athena, even though he had a mortal mother, so he didn't exactly understand how he was born. His mortal mother Sally used to tell him that he appeared on the apartment doorstep. He loved both of his mother's dearly so that's not why he ran away. But he ran away because of his step-father Gabe. Who was mentally and emotionally abusive to him and Sally. He dropped his pocket knife into his pocket, grabbed his bag and continued to run. A child looked at him. Blonde hair and sea green eyes. Percy thought nothing of it, although his mother told him that children of gods look like their godly parent most of the time though. He didn't look exactly like his mother Athena, more like Sally but he didn't exactly care. The sun rose and almost blinded him. Gods was he not prepared, he ran and ran until he heard two children talking. Afraid he ran into the nearest alley. "Hey!" A voice said, it sounded masculine, Percy freaked out. Gabe had made him terrified of lots of adults, especially men. The sounds of footsteps grew louder. He dove into a nearby cardboard box. Clutching his knife. He waited. The sounds of the kids footsteps grew louder, it didn't sound like two feet, it sounded like the kid brought backup, as he heard another set of feet. Then suddenly the footsteps stop"You think somethings in there?" Another child's voice says, it clearly was a woman but he didn't want to assume genders because he doesn't want to hurt someone's feelings and then get hurt. "I dunno but whatever it is it might be a demigod." The other "kid" say. Percy panicked how did this "kid" know about demigods, Unlike Percy, most demigods go to a special camp. Even if these "kids" were demigods how would they know that they were? Finally he had it, Percy was terrified. He took his pocket knife and brought it to his face. Then he jumped out the cardboard box. "LEAVE ME ALONE!" He shouted. The "kids" where quicker, they jumped out the way. "Woah!" The boy said. He had blonde hair and blue eyes, "Kid, that- that um, Thalia what do you think of that..?" "Definitely smart." The girl replied, She must've been Thalia. She had short Black hair and lightning blue eyes. "Well it isn't very planned in case it actually hurt someone or got them killed." The boy replied. Percy sniffed "Wh-who are you?" He asked. "My name is Luke Castellan, son of Hermes and over there is Thalia Grace daughter of Zeus." The boy - Luke - replied. "Isn't Zeus one of the big three..? Shouldn't he not be having any more kids?" Percy asked. "Nobody will be able to understand my dad, poor Hera who was being cheated on with every semi-attractive woman my dad see's... he just cheats." Thalia replied. Percy didn't exactly care but he decided to put on a shocked and sad face. "Well, kid, what about you?" Luke asked. Percy didn't feel safe enough and he knew that if you don't feel safe you shouldn't tell them your details. But these kids felt different, like he could trust them. "Percy..." He said "Percy Jackson... son of Athena." Thalia and Luke shared glances, Percy didn't wanna know what they were thinking. "Well Percy Jackson son of Athena, do you wanna join us?" Luke asked. Percy was obviously stunned. "Well... I should probably go back home I mean my mortal mother should be looking for me right now." Percy replied. Luke and Thalia glanced at each other again. Percy wondered whether or not they were planning to kill him for being annoying. "Well do you want to go back?" Luke asked. Percy was stunned, they hadn't killed him yet, they weren't toxic or mean. "W-well no... my stepfather is mean..." Percy admitted. "Well then if you want to join us you are happy too as well," Thalia said. Percy thought about it for a second, "sure I'll join you!" He agreed. Thalia and Luke smiled. "Well come on then Percy, we should leave before a monster or the cops find us" Luke said. Thalia grabbed Percy's hand, Percy felt safe with her for some reason, she reminded him of Sally. The trio then walked off into the sunrise, Percy hoped he hadn't made a mistake.

It had almost been exactly five months since Percy had joined Luke and Thalia. That day they were hanging out in their mini cave they had claimed, they were talking when a Satyr came up to them. Panting, the young Satyr said "Guys, you guys are demigods I smell it, you should come to camp." Thalia was the first one to speak. "We don't know who you are... okay? So please leave us alone." She ordered, the satyr didn't move. "Listen my name is Grover Underwood, this is my first recruit so please just come with me." The Satyr - Grover - begged. They all looked at each other. "Do you think that we should follow him guys?" Percy asked, "I don't know, he seems kind of safe but we shouldn't trust him" Luke replied. "Please I swear on the river Styx I'll-" Grover started, but Percy shoved his hand on his mouth. "Don't ever swear on the river Styx, it's dangerous and will get you in big, big trouble if you break it, accidentally or not." Percy said. Grover pushed Percy's hand off of his mouth. "Well I know that but you are a very smart young boy I don't see that often I'm not that smart." Grover Admitted. Percy frowned, he was getting very annoyed at this Satyr. "Fine! We will come with you!" Percy shouted. Luke and Thalia looked at Percy. "Percy... are you sure?" Luke asked. "Well he won't leave us alone until we come with him won't he?" Percy demanded. It was true though, Grover wouldn't leave them alone otherwise. "Well I guess so... alright fine we will come with you!" Thalia agreed. Percy and the others had walked for 3 hours without finding anything, then disaster happened. They got trapped in a circle of Cyclopes's. "You guys go ahead I'll keep them off the trail!" Thalia said. "Thalia no, we will help you!" Percy replied, "No Percy I will keep them off! You guys go ahead." Thalia demanded, "All right Thalia, be safe." Percy reluctantly agreed then him and Luke ran ahead to catch up with Grover. But right before they entered Thalia was attacked and killed. "THALIA!" Percy cried. Then something happened, Zeus was known for turning his kids into pine trees if they die young, and that's what had happened to Thalia. Her body transformed into a pine tree. Percy sobbed, he lost the person that reminded him of Sally. He lost his "mother". Grover grabbed his arm then yanked him inside the camp, but Thalia's tree created a border for monsters, because as the Cyclopes ran towards them, a blue light that suddenly surrounded the camp knocked him backwards.
