I find myself watching him intently as he speaks on his cell phone, my coffee warming my hands, and I can't shake the feeling that he might just be the most attractive man I have ever laid my eyes upon. We're sitting in a coffee shop called Café and Books, a quaint little place filled with charm, and we're currently waiting for someone of significance. He's been engaged in a serious conversation a few feet away from the enormous and eclectic bookshelf that creates a comforting atmosphere, for quite some time now. The café artfully blends modern aesthetics with vintage touches, giving it an ancient yet stylish vibe that pulls people in.

Seated across from me is Arthur, the man who picked us up upon our arrival at the private airport. His presence is commanding, yet there's a hint of warmth behind his serious demeanour.

"So you are Mr. James'...?" I prompt, curiosity getting the better of me.

"Private assistant, driver, bodyguard. I'm a trained agent from Darres," he replies with a straightforwardness that I admired.

Is he a vampire too? The thought flickers through my mind. It's hard to tell since he seems to genuinely enjoy his coffee, much like the way Theo James does. I reflect on my own relationship with coffee; I'm not usually a big fan, but there are occasions when I indulge, relishing the rich taste and enticing aroma of freshly brewed coffee in a cosy shop. It strikes me that vampires aren't supposed to appear human, but Neo James certainly defies that expectation, presenting as almost too perfect in every way.

"Mr. James said I can tell you that I'm a vampire too," Arthur shares, breaking into my thoughts.

"Is he actually a vampire? I mean, he moves so quickly. Does he drink blood?" I inquire, genuinely trying to understand this peculiar world.

"Of course, vampires do drink blood. Anastasis favoured yours specifically because it enhanced his power. A pureblood is exceedingly rare," Arthur explains, and I can see the importance of that distinction in his eyes.

"Was Anastasis a vampire too?" I ask, curiosity piqued.

"No, he practiced magic," Arthur clarifies, his tone betraying a hint of admiration for the magical arts.

"Do you happen to know anyone capable of conjuring fire?" I ask, still focused on the mysteries surrounding me.

"You've met Queen Ella, haven't you?" he replies, a knowing smile on his lips.

"No, I haven't had that pleasure yet," I admit.

"Queen Ella is the wife of Mr. James' older brother, King Elijah," he elaborates, and I can feel the weight of importance in those titles.

"Who do they actually rule over?" My interest deepens.

"All super naturals. Mr. James is next in line to the throne. The firstborn of the siblings is third in line since only two siblings were born from a true mate," he explains, making the hierarchy of their world clearer.

While I gaze out the window, my thoughts wander back to the question of why Neo James would choose to be with someone like me. He made it abundantly clear on our journey here that his interest in me extends beyond mere professional obligation. Wouldn't a vampire wife be the natural first choice for a being like him? It dawns on me that my stomach is growling insistently, as I've skipped both breakfast and dinner last night. I sincerely hope that I won't faint from hunger. Anastasis had learned quickly that I could never skip breakfast without facing consequences. I inhale deeply, feeling a mix of gratitude and apprehension that Neo James had come to my rescue.
