Chapter 2
Carolyn's POV
"Well I wasn't exactly expecting this." I told Will as he walked across the street to where I was standing.

"Neither did I! What're the odds?!"
There was an awkward silence.
"So is this yours?" He asked walking towards my Jeep.

"It's really nice."

"Thanks. It was a surprise present for me and Mia, along with the boards."

"You surf too?"

"Yeah, since I was about 6."

"That's cool, we should go some time."
"Yeah okay. Say, Will, how tall are you?"

"About 6'1. Why?"

"Could you come help me put some stuff up in my room?"

"Sure."

And with that we went up stairs to go decorate my room. When we got up there I had about 5 boxes just full of stuff I needed to have put up. I already had my TV set up, as well as my desk but I needed help with everything else. I put him to work hanging up all my lights across my ceiling and around my bed while I worked on putting up my posters and pictures which added some color to my otherwise black and white room. I eventually made my bed and put up a quote from a song above it.
"Chasing Cars right?" William asked point to the words.

"Yeah." I replied smiling.

We finished by making my bed and putting up the few books that I had.

"Thanks so much for helping me." I said. "Now I just have to finish hanging the posters and organizing the music room and I'm done!"
"Music room? Whatcha got in there?"
"You wanna see?"

"Of course!"
I led him to the only other room up here besides my bathroom. We walked into the room that Mia and I had started setting up today.

"Whoa!" was the only thing William could say.

We had set up my drum set in the back corner behind a plastic shield and we had stacked amps and speakers under the window and taped the chords down to the carpet. My dad had hung up a moon rug on the right wall and a sun rug on the left to help us sound proof the room.
"You have so much stuff!" He said making a bee line for the keyboard. "I mean look at this!" He motioned to the center of the room where we had the guitars and the bass and the mic set up.

"You should see what we have in the closet, this is just the electronics." I replied walking over to open the doors. When I had, I opened the door to reveal Mia's harp and violin and my drum kit and all of our posters and records in boxes.

"Is that a harp?!"

"Yes it is. It's Mia's, you should hear her play sometime."

Mia's POV

"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE A TRAMPOLINE!" I said bouncing up and down.

"I got it when I was a kid, never really bounce on it anymore." Jase said squatting on the ground.

He looked so cute, sitting there with leaves surround in him.

"WHY NOT?" I said doing a back flip.

"Long story."He said quietly.
I looked down at Jase and stopped bouncing .

"Is there something wrong?" I asked jumping down from the trampoline.

"No.... I'm fine."Jase said getting up.

"Are you sure?" I asked once more.

"Yeah, I wanna show you something else."

He grabbed my hand and lead me into his garage. He hit the light switch on to reveal this amazing old car.

"This is my car. 1960's fastback Mustang." He said with pride in his voice.

"Woah, jase! It's so vintage. They don't even sell cars like these anymore. Where did you get it?" I said while
scoping out the vintage mustang.

"It was my mom's car." Jase said running his hand through his hair.

"She must be a cool mom." I said opening the car door and stuck my head in to look inside.

"....She was." Jase said quietly.
I took my head out of the car and looked at Jase.

"What do you mean, she was?" I replied.

Once our eyes met I knew what Jase meant.

"Jase... I'm so sorry." I said.

I closed the car door and stood in front of Jase. He was fighting back tears.

"Jase.....It's okay to cry." I told him.
He said nothing. He just looked at me. I could tell he hasn't had closure since the death.

"Jase." I said wrapping my arms
around him.

For a moment, he wasn't hugging back. His fist were clenched until he lost it. He held onto me so tight and he cried on my shoulder.

"It was all my fault." He said over and over again.

"No it wasn't sweetheart." I say as I start to cry.

"If I hadn't gotten in trouble, she wouldn't have had to pick me up.....she wouldn't have gotten in the car, Mia.The guy would have never hit her....she's gone." He said holding unto me tighter.

"Jase, honey. That's not your fault. Please believe me when I say that.
I know we barely know each other but you are so sweet and kind, Jase. You welcomed me and made me a little less nervous on my first day. I will be here for you anytime, Jase. Please just believe me, please." I said as he calms down.

Our faces were inches apart after he let me go. Our eyes stared into each others.

"Jase, you're a beautiful soul and I know your mother loved you for a fact." I said.

I kissed his forehead and gave him another hug. He's been through so much but I can tell he never gets the chance to open up to anyone.

"Jase, do you want me to stay?" I ask him.

He was silent. His hair hung in his face, he didn't bother to push it back. I went to grab my phone and Jase called my name.

"Yes?" I replied.

"Thank you." He says.

"Any-"

He hugs me again.

"time." I say as I hug him.

He had so much passion and love to give but no one to give it to. I feel like him and his dad aren't as close as him and his mom.

"It's getting late. You should go do your homework now or whatever it is you do after school." Jase says letting go of me with a little laugh.

"Alright. I'll see you tomorrow and if you need anything text me." I say.

"Alright." he says.
I wave at him and he waves back with a slight smile.
