It was quiet, almost too quiet. Debris and dust moved across the streets in a ghostly fashion. If anything was living here, it wasn't anymore. silence filled the air but there was a faint humming in the background. The streets were desolate, abandoned cars lined them and shop windows were smashed, their glass lining the pavement making it sparkle in the light produced by the 3 suns. Then, all of this silence was gone, forgotten. There was a thunderous crash as the widows of sixty story buildings shattered and the support beams rattled and creaked. An ELITE transport prized its way through the two skyscrapers destroying, not only the silence but the perfectly preserved rooms inside the buildings. Old abandoned stationary flew out of what was left of an office building and rubble cascaded from the outer walls crushing everything at street level. Car sirens blared as rocks smashed through their windscreens. Then suddenly, silence once again. The transport vessel had turned the corner and quiet surrounded the streets.

A comet like object broke through the atmosphere of the planet. A hugh red checkered parachute burst from the back of the UNSC pod. It hit the ground at a slower speed than it had entered the atmosphere, but it was going fast enough to cause the road that it hit to crack, fragments of tarmac flew into the air and dust formed clouds around it.The pod depressurised as the glass front slid down. A man broke through the layer of dust moving it aside like a curtain across a window.

"Have you entered the atmosphere yet?" The man spoke to a small disk like object resting in the palm of his hand. There was a flicker as a blue figure was projected from the object.

"Just entering now." A tinny voice came from the holographic projection. The man clicked the disk and looked towards the red cloud covered sky. Another three UNSC pods released their parachutes and there were more thuds as the pods entered the earth in various places. He clicked the disk again.

"What is your position?" This time there were three replies from the hologram.

"Twenty clicks east."

"Fifteen clicks south east."

"Five clicks south of your position Sir."

The hologram disappeared. There was a short burst of gunfire and an explosion. The body of an ELITE soldier fell from the top of a small building and landed face first in front of the man. Three other men dropped down from the roof of the building and saluted.

"CAPTAIN!" They slung their assault riffles over their shoulders and lowered their hands.

"Alright boys, this is going to be a short mission. We are going to find out the intentions of the ELITE and what their plan of attack is." The captain paced up and down in front of the three troops. "We may not all make it back alive, some of us may be fatally injured. But we will succeed."

"SIR, YES SIR!"

"Alright Alpha Squad get into the warthog!" An object fell from the sky, a colossal green parachute flying above it. It hit the floor but was undamaged. The UNSC warthog was a masterpiece of speed, weaponry and its ability to transport troops.

"Scratch, take the wheal! Hammer take the gun! Rookie, stick with me." The soldiers clambered into the warthog and with a loud roar Scratch gunned the engine. They raced through the streets, mowing down ELITE troops as the went by, blood spewing from the bodes of the dead.

"SIR THERES A BARRICADE OF ELITE SOLDIERS RIGHT AHEAD!" Scratch spun the wheel, narrowly avoiding a abandoned truck in the middle of the road. Hammer blasted the face off of ELITE soldiers behind them, their blood cascading onto the back of the warthog like a waterfall.

"DRIVE STRAIGHT THROUGH IT!" Yelled the captain, the screams of ELITE troops filling the air. With that Scratch put his foot down, the warthog roared even louder than it had done when he started the engine. The thuds off bodies hitting the bonnet of the warthog masked the sound of the engine, blood splattered on the windscreen and red marks formed a new paint-job on the front of the vehicle. Organs and limbs where caught in the bumper of the warthog and the unrecognisable remains of the ELITE barricade was strewn all over the street.

"WOOOOOOOO!" Scratch drifted round the street corner and slammed on the brakes.

"Thats gonna take some cleaning up!"

"Shut up Rookie!" Hammer swivelled the turret round and looked away from the bloody mess behind him. "Sir! Look!"

The captain turned to look ahead of himself, "An ELITE transport. Follow it."

Scratch took his foot off of the brake and applied it to the accelerator. They followed the transport to the centre of the city. There was a skyscraper at the heart of it all. The warthog stopped a few meters back from the transport.

"Thats the tallest building I have ever seen"

"SHHHHH!" The captain gave the hand signal to stay low as he looked across the way. The transport had opened and ELITE troops were rounding up survivors, soldiers of the UNSC. They were being lined up and put against the walls. Alpha squad ducked behind the warthog.

"We gotta do something Sir." The captain looked up at Rookie and grabbed his dual pistols.

"Alright heres what we do." He grabbed a rock from the floor and drew up their plan of attack in the thick layer of oily dust on the road. Scratch and Hammer rolled to the other side of the pavement, opposite to where the warthog was, and put their backs up against a wall that was once part of a bank. They both pulled out their guns and waited for the hand signal. The captain raised his hand and gave the signal. Hammer stood up and ran forward to the next wall. He picked up his sniper riffle and propped it on top of the bricks. There was a small 'fut' as a shot was fired out of the sniper, in the distance, one of the ELITE soldier's faces turned into a red explosion, the other troops heads around it covered in the blood of their brother. Another was hit, before the ELITE knew it they were being picked off one by one until a swarm of them ran from the transport towards where the shots were fired from. Scratch stood up from behind the first wall and clutched his assault riffle. He squeezed the trigger, one ELITE after another hit the floor, pools of blood surrounding them. They were surrounded. The captain rolled to Scratch and picked up his assault riffle, but by then the leader of the pack was right in front of him, an energy sword raised in his hand. 'dakka dakka'. The captain fired his assault riffle directly into the chest of the ELITE. The energy sword fell to the floor.

He stood up and walked over to the bloody carcass of the ELITE leader. "Hammer, Scratch, go and untie those hostages. Rookie stay in the warthog." He crouched down and looked at the energy sword. It glowed blue in his hand and vibrated making a quiet humming noise. The captain felt power, he swung the sword and then sheathed it on his back along with the assault riffle he had used to obliterate the ELITE leader.

Hammer ran back to the warthog and clambered onto the turret. "We sent a message to the fleet saying that there are survivors on the planet. They should be here in about twenty minutes."

"Excellent." Scratch jumped into the drivers seat. "Scratch, lets roll." The warthog sped down the demolished street leaving a cloud of dust behind it. The sound of the warthogs engine was oppressed, as it drove into the distance, by the thunder of the UNSC transport ship driving for the survivors.
