Every day it became hotter outside. Spring in New York has always been warm and pleasant, but lately there has been a real desert fever.
I sat in my office for a long time and worked on various projects, signed contracts, checked invoices and other ordinary everyday things. I was wearing a silk skirt; I was unconditionally in love with silk, and a light shirt. Heels were an integral part of my office style.
"I'm listening," I picked up my work phone when it rang.
"Miss Walker, this is Henry from the security department, we have problems again. Someone tried to hack the bank account system today. Please come to our department as soon as possible, you should see it for yourself."
"I'll be there now," I was extremely angry about this situation. What purpose is money, it's trivial, but what made me even angrier was that I couldn't find this person. It was impossible to track; it was like some kind of ghost.
A few minutes later I opened the door to the security department. It was an isolated room with no windows, many desks and monitors. An ideal room for spying on someone. However, the main development point was in my father's house, there was a separate wing for particularly important developments and people who could write any program and be able to neutralize it. This room was just one of the points for collecting information on friends and enemies, mainly on enemies.
There were no friends.
"Miss Walker, we have already informed your father that someone tried to break the accounts again, but they failed, to be honest, I don't understand why they should do this, because the accounts they are trying to break are old, there is almost no money in them... I don't see the point, everything is quite strange," said a man in glasses and a gray shirt.
"Show me exactly which accounts they tried to hack."
The man began to quickly type something on the keyboard and immediately many different windows appeared on the huge monitor.
"The first account was in the name of the Lockwood family, but it still has zero. Other bills are bills from a year ago and even more," he typed something on the keyboard faster and faster and pointed at the monitor, "look."
"Account number 080900, twentieth of February." This is the account to which the money should have arrived on the day of Maria's murder. The day of her death. I looked at all this and did not understand what it all meant a feeling of anxiety and fear immediately came to my throat.
"Thanks Henry, continue to research who tried to do this and why, if you find out anything else, please let me know"
"Of course, Miss Walker," the guy obediently nodded his head and began to work.
I left the security office and went back to my office when suddenly my mobile began to make the sounds of an incoming call. It was Josh. Two days have passed since our meeting.
"Hi Josh."
"Hi Vivien, do you have a minute?"
"Yeah, speak up."
"Listen, I found out something about who may be trying to hack into accounts, but I want to discuss it in person, can I come to your office or meet somewhere?"
"Come to my office now, I will tell the security to let you through and lead you to me."
"I'll be there in fifteen minutes."
Twenty minutes later there was a knock on the office door. The security officer brought Josh into the office. I asked him to quickly lead him to me and not to start the interrogation with pesters. For some reason I trusted Josh Lockwood. I have not found the reasons for this yet. He simply gave me confidence.
