As I arrived at Hiroto's mansion, I couldn't help but feel a shiver run down my spine.
The grand gate loomed before me, intricately designed and imposing, casting long shadows in the fading light of the evening.
The mansion itself was a sight to behold, its white walls glimmering in the setting sun, adorned with delicate gold accents that seemed to dance in the breeze.
But despite its undeniable beauty, there was something unsettling about the atmosphere surrounding the mansion.
The air was thick with an aroma that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end-a strange mix of floral sweetness tinged with a hint of decay.
It sent a chill down my spine, setting my nerves on edge as I stood rooted to the spot, unsure whether to proceed or turn back.
I glanced around, searching for any sign of movement or life, but the mansion seemed eerily still, as though holding its breath in anticipation.
The rustling of leaves in the nearby trees sounded like whispers, and the faint creaking of the gate made my heart skip a beat.
Summoning all my courage, I took a hesitant step forward, my footsteps echoing softly on the gravel path leading up to the mansion.
As I reached the entrance, I hesitated for a moment, steeling myself before pressing the ornate doorbell.
The sound echoed through the silence, ringing out like a clarion call in the stillness of the evening.
Moments later, the door creaked open, revealing a servant with a polite but wary expression.
"Welcome, Mr Haru Tanaka" he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Master Hiroto has been expecting you."
I nodded, offering a weak smile as I followed the servant into the mansion's dimly lit foyer.
The air inside was heavy with the same strange aroma that had greeted me outside, intensifying the sense of unease that had settled over me like a suffocating blanket.
The servant led me through the labyrinthine corridors of the mansion, the soft glow of candlelight flickering against the walls as we went.
With each step, the aroma that had unsettled me outside seemed to grow stronger, wrapping around me like a suffocating fog.
Finally, we reached the guest room, a sanctuary of warmth and comfort amidst the eerie stillness of the mansion.
The servant gestured for me to enter, a faint smile playing on his lips as he spoke,"Please, make yourself comfortable, Mr Haru. Master Hiroto will be with you shortly. In the meantime, feel free to enjoy the desserts and warm tea that have been prepared for you."
I offered him a grateful nod, my nerves still frayed from the strange atmosphere of the mansion.
As the servant disappeared down the hallway, I stepped into the guest room, the scent of freshly baked pastries and fragrant tea enveloping me like a comforting embrace.
Taking a seat by the window, I allowed myself to relax for the first time since arriving, savoring the warmth of the tea as it washed away the chill that had settled in my bones.
The desserts were a work of art, each bite melting on my tongue in a symphony of flavors that momentarily chased away the lingering sense of unease.
Lost in thought, I gazed out at the moonlit garden below, the shadows dancing in the moonlight like specters from a forgotten dream.
