Next Day

In Y/n’s Home

Author's Pov:

The first light of dawn seeped through the curtains, casting a gentle glow across Y/n's room. She had barely slept, her mind restless with thoughts of the previous day. The alarm clock buzzed insistently, jolting her awake. Y/n shot up from her bed, her eyes wide with the realization that she was running late. “I can’t believe I overslept!” she muttered, scrambling to get ready.

She moved through her morning routine with a speed fueled by anxiety. She quickly dressed, skipping breakfast in her usual rush. As she hurried down the stairs, her mother’s voice called out from the kitchen, her tone warm and inviting.

“Y/n, come and have your breakfast!”

Y/n’s response was rushed and slightly frantic. “I have important work at the college. I’ll eat in the cafeteria. Bye, mom!” Without waiting for a reply, she burst through the door, her mind already on the confrontation she had planned with Mr. Kim.

At the College

An Hour Later

Y/n arrived at the college much earlier than usual, her determination evident in her brisk stride. She had decided to take this extra time to catch Mr. Kim before his classes began. As she navigated the hallways, her eyes scanned for any sign of him. Finally, she spotted him walking leisurely towards his office, a slight smirk on his face as he chatted with a colleague.

“Perfect,” she thought with a mix of frustration and resolve. “Just as I suspected—coming in late.”

Y/n took a deep breath and approached him with purpose. “Hello, Mr. Kim,” she said, trying to keep her tone even.

Mr. Kim’s eyes flicked towards her briefly before he continued walking. “If you’ll excuse me, I have some work to do,” he said curtly, barely breaking his stride.

Her heart sank. “And here he is, ignoring me,” she thought bitterly. “It must be because of yesterday.” The sting of his dismissive attitude added fuel to her growing frustration. She watched him walk away, feeling a knot of anxiety tighten in her chest.

Time Skip

In the lecture hall, Mr. Kim concluded his class with his usual efficiency. “So, students, I hope you understood the topic. That’s all for today,” he said, his voice echoing in the quiet room. He gathered his notes and prepared to leave.

Y/n, sitting rigidly in her seat, stood up with a determined expression. “Sir, I need to—” she began, but Mr. Kim, already heading for the exit, deftly avoided her.

Frustration boiled over as she followed him to his office. Her steps were quick and purposeful, her mind racing with worry. She reached his office door and knocked firmly, her knuckles making a sharp sound against the wood.

“May I come in, sir?” she asked, her voice carefully controlled despite the turmoil within her.

Mr. Kim glanced at her, surprise flashing across his face. He was about to leave, but he paused, considering her earnest expression. “Alright, come in,” he said, stepping aside to let her enter.

Inside the office, Y/n took a deep breath and positioned herself directly in front of him, blocking his exit. “Sir, please don’t ignore me,” she pleaded, her voice tinged with desperation. “It was an accident. I need to explain.”

Mr. Kim’s eyes softened slightly, and he seemed to consider her request. “Uh, so you’re saying it was a mistake?” he asked, his tone curious.

Y/n nodded vigorously, her frustration spilling over. “Yes, but if you tell the principal, I could get expelled. This wasn’t intentional. Please don’t tell anyone.”

Mr. Kim’s expression turned thoughtful as he pondered her words. “How about this: you’ll be my friend, and I won’t mention this to anyone,” he suggested, his voice carrying a hint of playfulness.

Y/n was taken aback, her mouth slightly agape. “Is he serious? Why should I agree to this? It’s not my fault,” she said, incredulous.

Mr. Kim’s tone became more earnest. “Actually, I don’t have many friends here. I thought we might get along well. Most people are rude and distant, and I’d rather have a friend who’s genuine, even if they’re a bit rough around the edges.”

Y/n stared at him, momentarily thrown by his sincerity. “Don’t you have other professors as friends?” she asked, puzzled.

“Most of the professors here are quite aloof and unfriendly,” he said softly. “I find it difficult to connect with them. I’d rather be friends with someone who is honest, even if they come off as rude.”

Y/n was conflicted. “I’m a rude person. Why would you want to be friends with me?” she asked, her tone firm but tinged with curiosity.

Mr. Kim smiled, a hint of warmth in his eyes. “You seem like one, but I don’t think you are. It’s okay if you don’t want to be friends. I just thought it might be nice to have someone genuine to talk to.”

Y/n was caught off guard by his unexpected kindness. “Am I not cold?” she wondered to herself. “Is this guy really as different as he seems?”

With a reluctant sigh, she forced a smile. “No, no, I’m okay with it. Totally… Mr. Kim,” she said, trying to mask her internal struggle.

Suddenly, Mr. Kim took a step closer, closing the gap between them. He leaned in, his breath warm against her ear. “Since we’re friends now, you can call me Jin when no one else is around,” he whispered.

Y/n’s heart skipped a beat at the unexpected closeness. His breath on her neck sent a shiver down her spine. She was startled by the intimacy of the moment and felt a flush of warmth spread across her cheeks. “Okay… Jin,” she said, her voice barely a whisper, as she quickly took a step back and hurriedly left the office.

As she walked away, her mind was a whirlwind of confusion. “Such a childish man. Really, friends??? With me?? Is he out of his mind?” she muttered to herself, her thoughts racing. “Why did I even agree to this? Don’t let sympathy cloud your judgment, Y/n.”

As Y/n disappeared down the hallway, Jin watched her with a satisfied smile. “Such an interesting girl,” he mused. “I really like how my words seemed to have an impact on her. I hope this means I’ll get to know her better through this friendship.”
