"Any questions about our lesson today?" My mother asked, addressing me and my younger sister, Emeral. We both shake our heads and I start to fan the ink of my book to dry the notes I have taken from today's lesson before closing it and clasping it shut. The breeze blowing the tree we sat under, filling the silence for only a moment.
My mother schooled us on the basics of magic. Mainly ingredients and when to use our powers for defense. She focused on our strengths. Mine mainly being plants. My sister's being water.
"Great!" My mom said while smiling her usually warm smile, "As always test will be at the end of the week. As for the rest of the day... What do you propose we do to enjoy this nice warm day?"
Emeral immediately spoke up, "Let's go swimming!"
This reaction caused my mother to chuckle and agreed with a nod, "Alright. Go get dressed then and we'll be on our way."
My sister jumped up and ran off into the house but I stay outside in the garden for a moment. The trees around us lovely with green and life.
We sat on cobblestone patch in between all the flowers and vegetation. Vines hung over up like a canopy. I actually made some things grow in this garden. A sort of way to practice my powers and make art.
I made the trees and my sister made the stream that flowed around them. A perfect harmony in a way. Our works of art complimenting each other.
I stood up from my sitting position on the ground, my bare feet taking in the cold stone only made cold by it being in the shade. I picked up mine and Emeral's work book before smiling at my mother and heading inside.
We spent most of our warm days outside in the garden or swimming in crystal clear lakes. My life is a perfect bouquet of flowers in a beautiful vase. Other planets are riddled by war and divide but ours could never be safer.
As I made it to my room, I set our books down at my desk. My room was decorated with the most beautiful plants and vines. Colors of purples, pinks, and greens surrounding the space.
I got a swimming outfit on before making my way back to the common room where I saw my mother and sister standing waiting for me. The sight brings a smile on my face.
My mom held a basket and some drying cloth. As I walked over they both smiled at me. Emeral linking her arm with mine as she began to skip out of the house. My mom following shortly behind us with a slight laugh.
As we walked along the my sister and I sung songs. These songs tell stories but I much prefer the harmonies.
The path under my feet was covered in soft leaves. Though my family prefers to where shoes, I much prefer to feel the earth under me. I like feeling the cold ground. I was always careful not to step on any stick that might hurt.
Upon making it to the lake we instantly jumped in as my mom set up her spot to sit on a nearby rock. The water was cool and refreshing with plenty of fish swimming around. It was so clear I could see the bottom which was covered in bioluminescent algae.
The crystal waters brings a new found peace. Even as we splashed around and played, I felt like I couldn't be happier. The night soon drew in causing the darkness to loom over us.
My sister and my mom went back home but I stayed back to get more swimming in. I floated on my back as fish swam around under me. The soft glow of the algae and the moon is the only light.
My parents trusted me enough to stay out at night by myself. I've always returned home before it got too late and I was a strong swimmer.
The water around me felt like a hug though it is chilly it doesn't bother me. I never been bothered by the cold much unlike my sister who hates it. When it snows she stays inside and watches while I play and freeze in the name of fun.
After a while of floating around it was starting to get late so I made my way out of the water, wrapping the cloth around myself immediately.
The night was quiet except for the sound of bugs singing their songs and my feet hitting the ground as I walked along the path of leaves. I've walked this path many times so even as it was dark I knew my way. I could probably walk it with my eyes closed.
Upon seeing my home in the distance I began to walk faster. I am incredibly excited to see my father who is no doubt home from work. The shining lights of my house and the surrounding village show that I am home.
