Chapter 5: Borderline

The weather was warm when the group gathered at the starting point of the mountain path, on the route they were going to climb. At the end, only seven people decided to go along the path leading to the mountain and look for help.

Youngeun bit her lip worriedly when she saw her friends getting ready. She really wanted to join in, but Junhee was right—she still needed to rest her legs. It would only slow them down if they insisted on joining.

"You guys sure about this?" Youngeun asked Hyunho and Donghyun.

They exchanged glances and nodded together. Donghyun smiled, glancing at Somi's group, "Yeah, someone has to look after them."

Youngeun followed Donghyun's gaze, holding back her smile when she saw Nahee. She seemed excited about this climb. Youngeun's guess was that she was so excited because Hyunho was there too.

Hyunho patted Youngeun's shoulder reassuringly, "The terrain may be difficult, but we are used to this kind of situation. The girls are the ones who are more worried." He said confidently. After all, Hyunho and Donghyun are athletes, so they certainly won't have too much trouble later.

"You have to focus on taking care of your legs," said Donghyun.

Youngeun's cheeks reddened when she heard that, "My legs is already fine. It just still feels stiff because of the long-term effects. I could have come along—"

"Your words won't work, Youngeun. I understand you must feel responsible, but it's best for you to stay here. Someone has to watch while the others are gone." Hyunho interrupted her, exhorting at length.

Youngeun pursed her lips. Hyunho was right, and now he sounds like her mother when he lectures.

"No one wants you to get hurt, so stay here. That's an order," Donghyun added while patting Youngeun's head several times.

Youngeun tucked her pinky into Donghyun's, making a promise. "Come back safely."

Donghyun nodded solemnly, "Of course."

Beside them, Hyunho sighed dramatically. "Is that betrayal in front of me? Youngeun, you just worried about Donghyun?"

Youngeun rolled her eyes at Hyunho's childish behavior, "Yeah, you too, Hyunho. Take care of Nahee too, you know she likes you."

A strange expression crossed Hyunho's face for a moment, "What a shame, I like someone else."

Youngeun's eyebrows furrowed in confusion—someone else got Hyunho's heart already? Who? Youngeun only knew that just now. "What did you...?"

Hyunho just grinned, refusing to say anything more. "Okay, it's time for us to start the adventure!"

...

After the group left to begin their mission to seek help in the village, Youngeun returned to the retreat center building, parting ways with Yoonseo and Jeongwon. They went to the north side of the building, who knows what they were planning.

Meanwhile, Youngeun walked quickly down the hall, looking for a place that might lead her to clues about this game of death. Although Youngeun is still not too sure whether this game is played by humans or there is a supernatural power behind it.
