"I took a deep breath and listened to the old brag of my heart. I am, I am, I am."
(-The Bell Jar)The year was 1986 and I, Eunice Peppercorn, was in love... With Anthony Michael Hall. Most teens my age liked Johnny Depp, Robert Lowe, Richard Gere, hell even Robert Downey Jr.
But no, I liked Anthony Michael Hall in Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Weird Science. I just love the nerdy look of the actor.
"Eunice! Time to go!" I heard my mom call downstairs and got out of my spot on my bed. I placed my shoes on, smoothed out my skirt and nicely pressed shirt before heading downstairs.
"Jonathan, you need to do something about this hair," my mom complained as she fixed his necktie.
"I know ma," Jonathan replied and saw me. He gave me a look like he was pleading for silent help.
"Mama, shouldn't you help dad with finding the car keys?" Dad always had a knack for losing his keys to his 1979 station wagon.
"Oh Eunice you're absolutely right!" Our mom exclaimed and rushed into the living room.
Jonathan gave me a look of gratitude, "thanks Uni. I honestly don't understand why mom is dragging us to this thing. Saturdays are our days to veg out."
"Yeah, but mom says it's-"
"An experience to meet new exciting people within our age," Jonathan and I say in unison. We both giggle for a second. "I don't really understand why she says within our age. It's not like we know anyone older than us besides teachers, our friends' parents, and people from church."
"She wants to make sure we just don't sit around on the weekends," Jonathan shrugs.
"Got the keys," our mom and dad walked back into the entrance way with our little sister Abby-Ann. I took a good look at our parents. Dad, Joshua Peppercorn, looks about his age. His early forties, dark hair like Jonathan's and my own. Blue eyes. Our mom on the other hand, Martha Peppercorn, looked to be you her than her age. Long blonde hair tied nicely in a bun, brown eyes. At times we make jokes that she swapped eyes with our dad.
Dad was also wearing a tie with one of his button up shirts. We all left the house, with mom locking the door, we got into the car and drove to the small church event.
"I can't believe Summer-Louise has moved back," mom smiled as we pulled into the church parking lot. I could smell popcorn and funnel cake from here.
We got out and Abby-Ann was getting ready to make a run for it once she saw some of her friends, "see you later!" She started to run over, but mom took the middle schooler's hand. "Mom!"
"Meet us at the pie booth when it starts to get dark," Mom told her before letting the thirteen year old to run over to her friends.
"If only mom would let us do-" I was cut off my a happy sound coming from our mom.
I looked at her to see she was already rushing over to some lady who ran over to her, both were acting like teenagers. "Summer-Louise Spano!!!" My mom exclaimed.
"Martha Johnson!" My mom's friend yelled back as the two finally hugged. "And it's Summer-Louise Myers now," Mrs. Myers explained.
"And I'm Martha Peppercorn now," mom kept smiling as we walked over. A man was right behind Mrs. Myers. "Oh, this must be your husband!"
"You don't recognize me?" The man chuckled.
"Oh my gosh! Lucas Myers!?" My mom hugged Mr. Myers. "Last time I saw you, you were a hug nerd!"
"I still am, working for NASA," Mr. Myers stated.
"Oh wow," mom looked shocked before she realized we were still next to her. "Oh these are two of my three kids, Jonathan and Eunice. This is my husband Joshua."
Mr. Myers and dad shook hands. Mrs. Myers gave Jonathan and I a huge grin. "How old are you two?"
"Seventeen," we state in unison.
"Oh twins," Mrs. Myers keep smiling. "I have a daughter your age. She's around here somewhere, her brother two. He's nineteen."
"Oh? What's their names?" Dad asks.
"Sybil and Travis."
A/n: Yes this is short, so? It's just the prologue. Sorry for spelling errors or grammar mistakes
