After the Valyrian ceremony, the couple and the royal family came back to the Keep, and while Daenyra and Aemond were putting their wedding attires back on, the rest of the family gathered with all the Lords into the gardens, where the rest of the day would be spent until the bedding ceremony. When the couple arrived into the gardens, the true festivities started, Daenyra surprisingly arrived first and was talking with Corlys.

"You are truly a sight today my child" he said, a smile gracing his hardened features. Corlys always was a firm man, stern even at times, but he always tried to be a tad softer with his family. There was nothing the man valued more, his family and legacy. "I thank you grandsire, I am glad to see you and Rhaenys here today, it brings me great joy" Daenyra replied putting her hand in Corlys'. The man laughed and gave her hand a squeeze. "We would have never missed this day, and Rhaenys would have had my head should I've tried to merely think about not coming." She chuckled, she knew Rhaenys, and she was indeed one of the fiercest women she knew. "Marry a Targaryen they said, it would be a great addition under your sleeve. No one told me I would marry an actual dragon, not under my influence, if anything I am under hers" he jested, earning a giggle from Daenyra and an amused scoff from his wife that just joined them. "I never heard you complain, husband." Rhaenys taunted, bringing another fit of laughter to the three of them.

"I know it may not be the best moment to talk about this, but I would like to discuss our future with you my dear" Corlys started after a while. Rhaenys inhaled a deep breath and took hold of my hand. I tensed a little and nodded. "What is it, grandsire? Are you ill?" I worried. Corlys shook his head and smiled. "Your grandsire is perfectly fine dearest, do not fret" Rhaenys reassured with a smile. I let out the breath I was holding in relief. "Then what is the matter?" I wondered, clasping my hands in front of me, unconsciously picking at my nails, as on cue, that is at that moment that my husband showed up next to me and took my hand in his, preventing me from hurting myself. "Excuse the intrusion, my Lord, Princess. I planned on letting you finish your conversation but I can't stand to see Daenyra hurt herself, I didn't want to offend you" he apologized for his lack of politeness. The older couple shook their heads. "No offense taken my Prince. We know our Daenyra trusts you with her life, and it may concern you as well, might as well talk about it in your presence." Corlys pursued as we both nodded. "We have been talking with the King and Queen regarding the succession of Driftmark" Rhaenys then said plainly. I frowned. "Why is that ? Jacaerys has always been considered the heir after... after Laenor's passing. Or even Lucerys if Rhaenyra decides to remove from the line of succession" I started. It made no sense, what changed. "The four of us here know how Laenor died, my heir. How he died, and at whose hands. I will not have the bastards of the murderer of my son on the Driftmark throne." Corlys said in a hushed voice since considering the murder of Laenor, no one knew exactly how he died, even his funerals were forgotten by most, only the remaining Velaryon and the Royal family assisted his funerals. His will to push away Rhaenyra's sons from the Driftwood throne made sense, but then who would be Corlys' heir? Vaemond maybe? "Then who will be your designated heir may I ask"

The couple looked at each other for a moment before turning back to me, to us. "We thought about you, dearest" I could feel Aemond straighten beside me, while I frowned. "I don't understand.. I am as much Laenor's daughter than Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey are, and I am fully a Targaryen of name now" Corlys seemed taken aback a bit by my reluctance. "You may not be a Velaryon by blood, but you were my son's daughter, he loved you like his own, just like you loved him dearly, moreover, he taught you about our beliefs, our customs, our ways. And I saw myself how much you love the sea and adventure, you would be a marvelous Lady of the Tides my dear. And you love to navigate and always said that Driftmark was the place you loved more in the Realms" Yes that was true, I always enjoyed the sea, but still, Lady of the Tides? I looked at Aemond, he had a look that said 'do as you wish I will follow you'. Not very helpful if I may say. I sighed. "I am honored you thought about me, grandsire. But as you may already know, Viserys insisted for me to take a seat in the small council, he is preparing me to be Queen. I can't say what will happen in the future, but the possibility of him naming me heir, even before Rhaenyra, appeared clearly. If I am to be Queen, I cannot be the Lady of the Tides." Corlys looked down but he had a knowing look. He knew I was right. "Moreover." Him and Rhaenys looked back at me. "There is a better suited person for that title. My younger sister, Baela. She is undoubtedly of Velaryon blood, her and Rhaena are the true-born daughters of Laena, and we both share that adventurous and wild spirit. She is your granddaughter as well, and I think she would be a great Lady of the Tides." I said with a smile. Rhaenys looked at me with a smile as well, while Corlys seemed to think deeply about it. I looked at Aemond, he nodded at me approvingly as well, and I let out a relieved and satisfied breath. "She is right, my love." Rhaenys said with hope. I could clearly see she was pleased with my idea, pleased that I would not just plainly agree and possibly take both the Iron Throne and Driftmark, or plainly refuse without thinking about a way out for them. Pleased that I would rather favor my sister rather than myself. Corlys nodded and they both went somewhere else to think about that newfound possibility in peace.
