ALLIE MAYBANK WAS a simple girl, in her own humble opinion. She just liked to have fun. She liked to swim in the ocean, hang out with her friends, and enjoy little luxuries that the unfortunate circumstance of her family's poverty denied her during her childhood.

She was born and raised on the Cut — or the poor side of the island — by Luke Maybank. She never knew her mother, who split when she was only one, leaving her with two year old JJ and their derelict, drug addict of a father. JJ tried to help out with Allie when he could, but being only a year older than she was, the two children were often left to fend for themselves. It was because of this that Allie learned very early on that if you wanted something, you had to go and get it. Even if it meant stealing, which she and JJ often did.

But the older Allie got, the smarter she got about it. She used her looks and her charm to her advantage to lure rich boys from the Figure Eight in and once they were under her spell, they were putty in her hands. She got free dinners, access to all the cool parties, and they even offered to buy her clothes.

She didn't remember how exactly she became a member of Rafe Cameron's stuck up friend group. But there she was, strolling the perfectly manicured Tannyhill lawn beside Rafe with Kelce and Topper in tow.

She supposed she girl bossed a little too close to the sun, but hey. Life was good over here.

She'd been hanging around the Kooks for years now, but it still always shocked her just how easily they came back from things. A minor inconvenience to them was world ending for those who lived on the cut. Hurricane Agatha was no exception. While the pogues were scrambling for any semblance of normalcy, Figure Eight barely looked like it got hit. It was so wildly unfair. That was why Allie hung out with the rich kids.

The boys carried on and on about some new boat Topper had just gotten. Allie listened half-heartedly, feigning a look of interest while observing the many activities going on around her. Tannyhill stood tall against the marsh, the only sign of upset being the uprooted trees and branches that littered the yard. Even so, Ward Cameron already had a team at work to erase any evidence of Hurricane Agatha.

"What's Sarah doing?" Allie queried. She closed one eye and wrinkled her face as she watched the girl flit about with a tennis racket.

Sarah Cameron was known as the Kook Princess. The middle — and allegedly favorite — child of Ward Cameron, she got everything she wanted and even things she didn't ask for. She'd heard the pogues complain about her many a time — when she used to actually hang out with them. Now, all the complaints came from Rafe, convinced that Sarah was put on a pedestal while he was left in the dust.

Rafe barely even gave her a glance before he scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Who cares?"

Topper looked over fondly and chuckled. "Probably trying to save some poor animal would be my guess."

Allie chuckled as she watched Sarah jump around in a rather uncoordinated manner. She opened her mouth again to remark that she wondered what animal Sarah was so persistent to save, but she was interrupted by woman hurrying her to them.
