Jake looked at her for a moment, as if trying to gather his thoughts. His gaze wandered around the room before finally finding focus in her eyes.

"Sarah..." He started, but was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell.

"It's probably her." he said, turning towards the door. He opened it and Sonya was standing in the doorway, holding a bag of clothes in her hands.

"Hi, Sarah. I have some things for you that you might like." She said smiling but noticed the tension in the room. "Is everything okay?" she added, looking at both of them.

Sarah glanced at her before turning her gaze to Jake, waiting for an answer.

"Yes everything is alright. Thank you, Sonya. We were just talking about..." Jake started, but was cut off again.

"Of course, sorry to disturb you. I'll just leave it here for you." Sonya said, placing her bag on the kitchen counter. "If you need anything else, let me know. Have a nice day!" After these words, Sarah and Jake were left alone, looking in each other's eyes. She saw something in his eyes that scared her. It looked like fear, but also something else she couldn't define.

"Jake, what's going on?" she asked concerned. "You say we're engaged, but..."

Jake interrupted her by taking her hands in his. "Sarah, you have to believe me. This... this is all complicated. You have to know that..."

They were interrupted again by the doorbell.

"Who could it be now?" Jake muttered, moving away from her to open the door.

Sarah felt something was wrong. Her heart was beating faster and thoughts were swirling in her head. Something wasn't right in this situation. Was Jake hiding something? Was this whole day just an illusion?

When Jake opened the door, a man in a police uniform stood in the doorway. Her heart sank for a moment and her thoughts began to swirl in chaos. Is this the end of her lies?

The man in uniform looked at her seriously, then turned his gaze to Jake.

"Mr. Jake Williams?" he asked, looking at Jake.

Jake looked at him confused. "Yes, I'm Jake. Did something happen?"

The policeman looked determined as he pulled a notebook from his pocket. "We are here regarding an accident that was reported a few hours ago. Can you explain why your car was seen near the scene?"

Sarah felt her heart begin to pound faster. Something was very wrong. The world seemed to begin to fall apart around her.

"I don't know about any incidents with my car," Jake said, but his voice sounded unsteady.

The policeman looked at Jake with a sceptical look. "I have a report here that suggests something completely different. Can I come in and talk?"

Jake looked at Sarah and she noticed that his body was tense and there were beads of sweat on his forehead. She couldn't help but feel like he was hiding something.

"Of course, please come in," she said, trying to stay calm even though she was trembling inside.

When the officer entered the house, Sarah saw Jake avoiding eye contact.

"Gentlemen, may I know what is going on?" she asked, glancing at them alternately.

The officer looked at Sarah, then back at Jake. "We found your car a few hours ago. It was abandoned in a roadside ditch, completely demolished. Can you tell me what happened?"

Sarah felt the blood leave her face. Her mind was spinning, her thoughts swirling in chaos. What happened to Jake's car? And why does she feel like Jake had something to do with her accident?

She felt the urge to say something, but her mind was in chaos. She looked at Jake, but realized that even now, if she wanted to, she wouldn't be able to trust him.

"Mr. Williams, can you explain where you have been for the last few hours?" The officer turned to Jake again, his tone indicating he had no intention of being fooled.

Jake swallowed and looked at the officer. "I was in the hospital. With Sarah. We returned home not long ago" His voice sounded as if he was convincing himself.

"So, Mr. Williams, could you tell us why your car was found destroyed if you claim you were at home?" The policeman persisted.

Sarah looked at Jake in disbelief. "Jake, what happened to your car?"

Jake held up his hands in a helpless gesture. "I do not know. It must have been... some mistake. Maybe someone stole my car..."

"Are we to understand that in the few hours that your car was found totaled, you and Mrs. were at home, no one saw you, and you have no idea what happened to your car?" The policeman sounded sceptical.

Sarah felt like her world was collapsing around her. "Jake, are you telling the truth?"

Jake looked at her with despairing eyes. "Sarah, I... I don't..."

Before he could finish his sentence, the phone rang in the house. Sarah looked at Jake and he walked over to the phone, struggling to pick up the receiver. After a moment of exchanging words with the person on the other end of the phone, his face turned pale.

"It's... it's from the hospital. My... my dad had a car accident. He is in hospital, in critical condition." Jake seemed completely devastated.

Sarah felt as if the world stopped. All the previous doubts and problems now seemed irrelevant in the face of the tragedy that had befallen Jake and his family. But deep in her heart she felt a slight relief.

Sarah felt a sudden surge of sympathy for Jake. Even though she had her doubts about him, now his pain was visible and real. In the face of tragedy, all other problems disappeared.

"Jake, I'm with you," she said gently, placing a hand on his shoulder. "We'll go to the hospital. We will get through this together."

Jake looked at her with gratitude in his eyes. "Thank you, Sarah. This is important to me. I can't think about anything other than my dad right now."

All three of them left the house, getting into Jake's car. Sarah felt that this was the moment that could bring them closer together. Despite her previous suspicions, she now wanted to support him.

During the drive to the hospital, Sarah held Jake's hand, trying to give him her support. When they arrived, they were met by Jake's family, who expressed deep worry and concern.

"Dad will be okay," Jake said, but his voice sounded weak and his eyes were full of fear. He looked at his father lying in the hospital bed.

Sarah sat next to him, holding his hand, feeling him. Despite all the doubts she was experiencing, she now knew that she was there for Jake when he needed her most.

They all spent their time in the hospital waiting and praying. As the minutes passed, the surrounding tension grew. Finally the doctor showed up with the news.

"The patient's condition is still critical, but we managed to stabilize him. We're going to have to do some surgeries, but we're doing everything we can to help him get through this. You can go to the patients room to see him, but not longer than five minutes." he said, looking at Jake's family with sympathy.

Jake looked at his father lying in the hospital bed. He looked very bad, his body was covered with multiple cuts and wound. Jake looked exhausted, but there was a glimmer of hope in his eyes. Sarah felt that the most important thing now was to be here for him, to support him through this difficult moment. But when she looked at the man lying in bed, something twisted her stomach.

"I'm here with you, Jake," she told him quietly, and he smiled weakly in response.

At that moment, Sarah knew that even if it wasn't true, she should support him because she too needed support at some point.
