I stare out the window of my floor leveled apartment as the people pass by. Their smiling faces and care free expressions making my blood boil.

They have no idea what it's like out there, beyond the walls of Woodbury. Those skin eating monsters, the never ending death.

I back away from the glass, discusted and distraught, as I turn around to face the inside of the room.

It's quite simple, actually. A bed against the wall, table with a lampshade next to it, bathroom on the far side. A few things here and there.

I sigh and sit on the bed, running my fingers against the fabric. All a girl could want, right? A nice room, protection.

Yeah, try again. It's not so great when your family is dead and the world has ended. People feeding on people, turning and repopulating by biting and scratching eachother.

Suddenly, I hear a knock on my door and I automatically reach for my dagger. Then I remember that it's not there because the 'security' took it. For my own safety, they said.

"Who is it?" I ask, rather forcefully, and the door clicks then opens slowly. I step behind the door and push my foot against it to keep it from moving in too far.

"Woah, woah, it's just me," says a familiar voice and I peak past the big, white door and see the last person I wanted to see.

The "Governor."Of course, I will never call him that to his face. He says he doesn't like being called Governor, but I highly doubt that.

"Hello," I say, trying to show the annoyance in my voice. "Hi," he says. "Uhm, I know you just got here a week ago and everything but we're running low on guards. You can't be more then 14 years old, our youngest age is 12."

"If you're asking me to be a guard, I'm sorry but I have to decline your offer," I say then try to close the door. Unfortunatly, this guy is annoyingly persistant.

"Are you sure? I mean, you could have your weapons back and everything while on guard duty." The Governor tries.

I snap my head up, "my dagger?" I ask him. He nods.I open the door, "is there certain times i'm on duty?" The Governor smiles, like he won something, but really I just want me dagger.

"19 hundred hours to 24 hundred hours."I roll my eyes. He literally just used military times with me.

"Alright, okay, see you then. I expect my knife to be shined," I joke dryly and shut the door.

Already covered, sweetheart," I hear the Governor mumble from the other side of the door followed by numerous footsteps.

Finally, he's gone.Something is wrong with him. Everyone thinks he's just perfect with a golden halo hanging over his head, but I know better.

He's hiding something.I sigh and lean against the door, running my hands through my thick, brunette hair.

I walk over to the bed that's leaning against the wall and flop down onto it.Well, I should get sleep while I still can. It's going to be a long night.

*LATER THAT DAY*

I'm awoken from my sleep by 3 hard knocks on my door. I sit up quickly, flatten out my shirt and pants, then walk over to the door.

I pry it open and peak past it to see the Governors lover, Andrea. I smile. She's actually really nice and won't take crap from anyone and I respect that.

"Hey, Andrea," I greet. She smiles at me, "Raine," she greets back. "Governor wanted me to come and get you, it's time for you to take your post at the guard with Martinez."

I nod, "okay, thanks Andrea." She smiles once again and turns to leave. "Wait Andrea," I yell and she turns back around alreayd half way down the corridore. "Yep?"

"Have you been here since the, well, beggining?" I ask her, clutching the door handle. Her smile drops and she looks at the floor, slowly shaking her head.

"Where were you before?" I ask her and she looks at me, the crease between her eyes crinckling. "A farm, a while from here," Andrea says and walks away.

I sigh, my lips chapped. A farm, eh? Must have been great there. I click the door shut and walk to my closet.

I pull a pair of army pants with a dark jacket and a army cap. I pull my hair into a medium ponytail and just keep my black Vans on.

I run out of the door, knowing I was late already. I have to wear an outfit like this, just in case the prison group ambushes us.

Yeah, prison group. The Governor said they attacked him. He described the as vicious killers, scaring everyone. Well, except me. I can see right through his disguise.

They have women and children. I know if I had children and a husband I would never put them at risk on purpose.

"Martinez!" I yell to the man standing on top of the wall. He turns around and smiles, waving me over. I jog to him. "Hey, Raine," he says, smiling.

I smile back, "I'm on duty now, you can leave." He nods at me and jumps down, placing his gun in his holister and walks away.

I replace my smile with a straight face. I seriously can't stand that guy. He just sets off a nerve and he doesn't have to do anything. He just had that vibe.

I climb up on the wall and take a seat. I've never been on duty, but I've watched Martinez, T-Dog, and Sasha.

Well, these are going to be some long nights.

I can't take it. Being here at Woodbury. Something is wrong, i can sense it. I have to go, right now.

"Sasha, come here please," I say, motioning Sasha, the girl on duty and one out of the three people I like at this hell. She walks over, "yeah, Raine?"

"I can't stay here," I say, getting straight to the point. Sashas' eyes widen, "w-what do you mean?" she asks me.

I shift from one foot to the other, "it's not safe. The Governor is hiding something and I'm not gonna stay here to find out what it is."

Sasha looks sad but alert, "you can't leave. It's not any safer out there then in here," she speaks. I nod my head, "you'd be surprised."

I turn around and look beyond the wall at all the houses and the discarded area. I prepare to jump down, but i'm stopped by Sasha, "wait."

I turn around to face her and she hands me a bag. I take it and look inside to see apples, grapes, meat. I look up at her in confusion. She smiles, "snack time."

I grin, thanks, Sash. Tell Ty that I said bye," I say. She nods, "okay. Be safe out there, Raine." I chuckle a little, "always am. You too."

I turn around again and this time I successfully jump. I land on my feet and tie the bag to my waist belt, secure my dagger into a easy to reach place, and take off.

Aye, where's Raine gonna go? I enjoyed making this chapter and I was watching TWD while making it. Problem? Comment what you think :D
