"if you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. if they don't, they never were."

|Chapter 2: Rambling is Cute? |

Aspyn♡

Finally deciding to log out of Instagram, I stood up and searched around for our puppy, Griffin, a husky. "Griffin! C'mon little buddy where are you? Wanna go for a walk?"

Right when the word 'walk' came out of my mouth, Griffin came bounding around the corner and rushed to the front door. Hooking on his leash, I unlocked the door and walked around our private neighborhood. Living in one of LA's richest neighborhoods had its perks. Private basketball and tennis courts, and (my personal favorite) a hidden ravine that Elliot and I would always sit by.

Walking past the basketball court, I noticed a boy about my age with gorgeous blonde hair and (from what I could tell) really toned muscles. He effortlessly tossed a ball into the hoop.

"Nice shot," I called out to him. I wasn't one for speaking to strangers but he seemed nice and what could getting to know a hot guy hurt?

"Huh? Oh, I uh, didn't see- thanks." He picked up the basketball and walked towards me, "I'm Graham by the way." He nervously brought his hand up to the back of his neck and sheepishly grinned at me.

"Oh. Aspyn James. Do you live around here? I don't remember seeing you around or anything..." I trailed off, glancing at the ground.

"Oh um...yeah, we just moved in about two days ago. I live in that house over there," He pointed to the mansion-like home adjacent to ours.

"Oh! Graham!" I recalled Mrs.Rivers mentioning a son named Graham, "Your mom stopped by earlier this morning and said that you were going to start up school with us in a few weeks. You're a senior, right?"

" Oh, um. Yeah. I'm a senior. Well, will be in the- nevermind. Anyway, did my mom say anything else about me?" He nervously chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck.

"No. Not that I remember. Why? Is there something I should know?" I half-joked.

"What? Oh! No! I was just... eh, my mom sometimes over does things. Ya know?" He said, sheepishly glancing at me.

"Well," I innocently recalled,"She did mention that you were single and, I quote, ' ready to mingle' and 'so looking for a cute girl like you!' I mean, if you ask me, that sounds a little desperate, Graham." I joked, clicking my tongue in mock disapproval.

A flash of horror went across his sharp features and his gorgeous face flushed red, "She said that!? Oh my god, I - Aspyn! I'm not desperate. No. Nope. Not at all. Plus, I couldn't go out with you!" Graham rambled, looking everywhere except my eyes.

"Oh? And why is that?" I chatised, raising a thin eyebrow at him.

Where was this new-found confidence coming from?

"Oh! Aspyn, I - you're like, perfect. I could never get girl like you. Oh my god! I can't believe I said that! Oh god. You probably think I'm some creepy - ass guy. I- "

"Graham. It's fine. Besides, you could get any girl, trust me. I would know. Every girl at school will cling to you like flies to a spider web. Anyway, I should probabaly get going. I'll see you around? " I looked up into his sea-green eyes. Oh god, they were perfect. I was practically drooling by the time he started talking again.

"You really think? About that stuff you said before, I mean."

"Of course. I mean, don't you have a motorcycle? Seems pretty badass if you ask me." I replied honestly, looking past his gate-clad driveway, to where there was two sports cars and a shiny black motorcycle.

"Thanks Aspyn. Hey, I know we kinda just met and all but do you wanna do something tomorrow? I mean, I don't know anyone, besides you of course, so it's a little boring with just my mom and sister. You don't have to if-" Nodding slowly, I silenced his rambling, "I would love to. Come pick me up at 10 tomorrow? I'm right next door to you and we can go to the beach or something."

"Yeah! That sounds good. Wait, can have your number? I mean, so we can work out the details and all. Do I sound desperate to you? Oh god, I'm so annoy-"

"Graham," I said, holding out my hand for his phone, " Give me your phone. Anyway, you need to quit rambling so much before I chop off your pinky with a rusty hacksaw." I teased, lightly punching his muscle-toned bicep.

"I tend to do that when I get nervous," He grinned sheepishly and rubbed the back of his neck for the (what seemed like) hundreth time, " You know, ramble. Not the hacksaw thing."

"I make you nervous?" I raised a teasing eyebrow at him. Butterflies were desperately trying to burst through my stomach and my heart was beating quickly, I was sure people in the next town could hear it.

"Shut up," he muttered. Handing him his phone back, I took a step back and tugged gently on Griffin's leash.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow, Graham. I'm glad we met, even though you talk a little too much." I teased, sending him a friendly smile and a wink before turning back towards my house.

"Hey, Aspyn!"

Turning around, I raised a curious eyebrow at him.

"Thanks. For the basketball thing." He chuckled nervously and I could tell he wished he hadn't said that.

I burst out laughing, gaining a raised eyebrow from Graham and I think I saw a blush on his cheeks. "No problem, Graham. Goodbye!" I cheerfully waved at him before turning back towards my house.
