I watched the baby greenmen playing in my garden as I sat in the grass next to my hobgoblin, Rayla. I laughed as the two older greenmen tried to shoo them away as they gardened. "Kohaku, what's so funny?" Rayla asked.

"Nothing Rayla," I replied. "They're just so cute."

"Don't you find it weird that you can talk to demons?"

"Sometimes." I've been able to talk to demons ever since I could remember. "Why do you ask me that all the time?"

"Because you're a Demon Guardian."

"Whatever, is just because I'm a protecter of demons and both my parents were exorcist?"

"No!" She squeaked in defense.

I started laughing and picked her up. "No need to get defensive Rayla." I sighed. "I'm gonna miss this place. The calm atmosphere, the demons running around playing, and the friends I made."

I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist. I started to try to break free until his emotionless voice whispered in my ear. "Does that include me, Kohaku?"

"Amaimon, don't do that to me!" I giggled.

"Why not?"

"Because I don't like it."

"Why?"

"Because I don't!"

"Humans are strange creatures." He stated.

"So are demons!" I replied. "Also that does include you."

"Good." He picked me up bridal style.

"What are you doing?" I squealed as he started running through the forest. "I have to leave soon!"

"We're going to play a game." He stated. "It's called hide Kohaku from brother."

"Amaimon!" I wrapped my arms around his neck and buried my face into his chest as he jumped into the trees. Some of the branches and scratched my legs because of his speed. "Please, slow down! The branches are scratching my legs and they sting."

He slowed down and looked at me. "I should be more careful. I forgot humans are fragile creatures." He kept jumping from branch to branch.

~

Soon we found ourselves deep into the forest. A small river flowed quietly beside us. We were leaning against a oak tree. Suddenly Amaimon grabbed my right arm and unwrapped the bandage around my forearm to my elbow. "Why do you cover the your mark up?" He asked tracing the mark of a Demon Guardian. The mark is of a large tree with many roots interlocking to form a circle around the tree. (Above)

"It's a habit Amaimon. It's hard to break a habit." I sighed as his long black fingernail traced it over and over.

"You shouldn't cover it up." He said pulling me into his lap. This wasn't an uncommon thing for him to do, so I just put my head on his shoulder and let him wrap his arms around me. "It makes you special." His arms tighten around me slightly. "I don't want you to go to that school."

"Amaimon....I really don't have a choice." I stated quietly as my eyelids started to feel heavy. Naturally I curled up to Amaimon and took his warmth. "M-Mephisto's making me."

As I fell asleep on my best friend, I heard him mumble, "That's why I want to hide you."

(Amaimon) *Sorry gotta make him act a little out of character for this to work.*

Once Kohaku fell asleep on me I let a small smile grace my lips. I ran my hand through her waist length platinum blonde hair as I thought about where I could hide her from brother. 'I refuse to let brother take her to that school.'

I picked her up bridal style and started jumping farther from her cabin. I came to the edge of the large forest she grew up in and stared out over the distance. "What are you planning to do with her now Amaimon?" Brother's voice made me growl. "You weren't planing on taking and hiding her from me were you?"

"Yes." I said plainly.

"Where were planning to take her?"

"Away from your school."

"Well, how do you plan on protecting her. If any other Demon King sees her mark? She'll be in danger."

"I can protect her with ease." I growled. He was starting to annoy me.

"Do you really believe that? What if you have to leave her to see father? She's defenseless against another Demon King."

"I won't leave her alone!" I yelled. Kohaku stirred slightly but didn't wake up.

"Come. We'll talk more at her cabin. She'll catch a cold with the wind blowing on her like this." He said. I looked down and realized she had a green spaghetti strap shirt, a pair of white shorts, and her boots. I slipped my jacket off and draped in over her before following brother back to her cabin.
~

I shut Kohaku's bedroom door and walked into the kitchen area. "Are you willing to risk Kohaku's safety just for your selfish wants?!" Brother yelled at me as soon as I sat down on one of the chairs.

"I don't want her to go to that school and become an exorcist." I stated. "And keep it down. You'll wake her up."

Brother sighed. "Amaimon I know you want her to stay, but in order to keep her safe, she has to come with me."

"Why?! Why do you want her to go to the school?!" I yelled.

It was silent for a few minuets. "Shiro Fujimoto was killed a six weeks ago. That means his protection charms have lost most of their power. That's why I want her to go to True Cross."

I was about to say something when I heard Kohaku run back to her room. "Kohaku." I mumbled.

(Kohaku)

'Shiro's dead?' I thought. 'That can't be true. I can't believe he's dead. I won't. The man my brother and I looked up to is dead.' Tears fell down my pale cheeks.

I heard a knock on my door. "Kohaku, may I come in?" Mephisto's voice asked from the other side of the door.

"No! Leave me alone clown!"

"Kohaku Kurosawa open this door right now!"

"You're not my dad! Leave me alone!"

"Haku, open the door." Amaimon said softly.

"You stupid demons. The door isn't even locked." Amaimon opened the door and instantly sat next to me on the bed.

He grabbed me and pulled me into his arms. "I'm not stupid Kohaku." He mumbled as I buried my head into his chest.

"Kohaku, please understand." The clown said. "He was protecting his son."

"Why am I just learning about this then?" I mumbled. Amaimon ran his fingers through my hair in a comforting manner.

"I'm sorry, I was unable to come tell you until now."

"I just can't believe he's gone." Amaimon held me tightly.

"May we speak about True Cross now?" I simply nodded.
