Sunshine D. Abigaile woke up with a jolt and a scream that made her blankets fly off the bed. The little girl pants as she glances about the room, looking for any potential monsters that haunted her previous dream. Air choked Sunshine's throat, her chest pounded with a subtly rising angst. Tears formulated themselves in her big emerald eyes when she realizes that she had caused an unnatural thumbing noise to trek in the hallway beyond her door. Gasping, Sunshine hides under her sheets and shivers.

Her bedroom door slowly creeks open and a death rattle calls out, "Sunshine? What's the matter, my little pumpkin? I heard you screaming..."

Sunshine tries not to choke on a sob as she listens to the unnatural foot steps become more pronounced towards her bed. The death rattle voice came again. "Sunshine, there is no need to be frightened of me... I know very well I look like a beast, and I would be afraid of me too but... I want you to try for Mommy. Okay?"
A light, comforting hand rubbed where Sunshine's chubby tummy was over the blankets. A set of springs beside the child were pressed down gently by a light weight.

Her mother was there. Sitting beside her and comforting her as she began to feel a little guilty. Before Sunshine could do it herself, the tender fingers that rubbed her tummy slowly unravelled the fabric. The little girl gasps, keeping her eyes closed shut, she didn't want to see her scary mother.

A small raspy chuckle swam through the darkness of the room. "Aww, you're still terrified of my ugliness, yes? It doesn't matter now, you haven't run away from me yet. I am so proud of you..." The springs were then released from the weight that was on them. The unnatural footsteps edged towards the left side of Sunshine's bedroom, where the window was. The whooshing sound of curtains came, and it was enough to peak Sunshine's curiosity.

She opens one eye hesitantly to make out a black nanoid silhouette opening up her curtains. To get a better look, she opens up both eyes to see a faint but powerful glow radiate on the floor, her bed and... her mother. In a murmur, Sunshine asks, "What are you doing?" The girl trembled a little bit, seeing the most grotesque being turn it's head towards her.

"I figured..." The monster began. "That you might want to see this..." She gestures towards the little girl. "Come here, sweetie..." Fear settles down in the bottom of Sunshine's gut, thinking the demon would sabotage her if she even dared to go near the window. It took every ounce of audacity to move her legs from under the covers and to move towards the mysterious light that made her curiosity twinkle.

The Mother shuffles away, she felt a deep set of fear too, hoping that the monster she seemed to be wouldn't scare away her precious little Sunshine. "Look, look, sweetie..." She points to the window as the daughter shuffles her feet timidly. The creature lunges back so she could give Sunshine some space.

When she finally gets to the window, Sunshine's mouth grows wide in sensational nostalgia. Looking at her, through her window, was a big golden harvest moon that seemed to sing among the audience of stars. The trees, bushes and grasses below took lightening from its grace as their appendages dance with the wind as their partner.

The night was spectacular, so mesmerizing that the memories of Sunshine's nightmare began to subside and the terror she bared towards her Mother declined more and more. A small smile creepiest slowly upon her lips and cheeks, a moist feeling coming towards her eyes as she turns to find her Mother in the darkness. The girl became appalled to see her in the far right corner of the room, crying. Sunshine's warm grin turns into a somewhat worried, confused and hurt frown. The girl begins to make out that her Mother had buried her head in her hands, trying to hide every flaw on her face.

Sunshine, the girl who once feared this inferior freak, began to look at her in a new light. Physically and metaphorically. Taking small baby steps, Sunshine takes her time to make her way over to the sobbing mess. The floor creaked beneath her as she felt her heart beat faster and faster. The moonlight giving a strange reassurance to her frightened soul. And before she knew it, she was standing before the monster.
