She spins and laughs and the lights throw her into silhouette as I pull her close.
"This isn't as bad as I was expecting."
"Of course it isn't," she grins, "I knew you loved shitty pop music deep down."
"I hate you."The whole of year thirteens here but even so there's only eighty or so people. I look at their faces and realise I probably won't ever see any of them again. They're so resigned to not amounting to anything. Half the people I know are going to work in family businesses until they die and the other half are going to uni close to home. There's a lack of ambition and it confuses me. Everyone here has potential and everyone seems unhappy with the thought of never leaving this place yet they don't try to. They don't use their potential. The only person who understands where I'm coming from and who I understand is this girl who I'm dancing with.
